I just mentioned that Kleiner's lab changes position weirdly during the game.

When you meet Alyx for first time and take the elevator, the elevator goes real long way to underground. You can check it with noclip. Then Kleiner's lab is far down there.

But after Nova Prospekt when you teleport back to the lab, you go with dog to that broken elevatoir so EVEN MORE DOWN. And then when you go out of that door you are on the street that you saw from the rooftops. Quite weird since that place where you got to the elevator was just in middle of that one building on right when coming out.

Yup. Same reason three days pass in eight hours. Though the lab is actually on the ground floor.

The window isn't at ground level. It's an elevated semi-rooftop. After you first get the crowbar, you have to go down a couple of stairs to get to the real ground position.

Yes but the window itself is also pretty high up in the lab. Which makes the floor of the lab about ground level I think.

When you come out of the lab you're below street level. Also, it does move, if you try to align overhead maps of Point Insertion, Red Letter Day and Anti-Citizen 1 it doesn't fit in properly.

Remember, it's magic.

Ja.

V-Man's summary of Kleiner's Lab position

Okay, here's what I think is the basic summary of the position of Kleiner's lab.
In the ending of Point Insertion Alyx rescues you and takes you down an elevator, at which point she presses a button next to a poster of Dr. Breen which opens a secret tunne. You then follow her through it and down a little slope caused by stairs through a doorway and into the main entrance of Kleiners lab. She then puts a quarter into the water machine and enters some code and the door opens.
Notice that Kleiners lab is about 2 floors high and when you teleport behind Kleiner near the end of the teleportation sequence your above the ground on a scaffolding.

Later at the end of the Entanglement chapter you teleport into Doctor Kleiner's Lab aproxamitley 8 days or so after you last were there.
Before some idiot goes and says "doctor klener sad thet it tok a week" I'd like to point out that it took a day for you to get from Doctor Kleiner's Lab to Nova Prospekt because you spent an entire night in Ravenholm.
Anyway, notice that at the end of Entanglement the vending machine entrance is no longer there and is replaced by a gaping hole covered by a giant door.
Once you exit that door to your left is an elevator that goes down about 2 stories. So I think that about sums the location of Kleiner's Lab up, now doesn't it?
(note that I'm not exactly sure if that elevator was there during Red Letter Day as I'm not really in the mood to play Half Life 2 right now)

1. [The 'Valve can do no wrong, so there must be an in-universe explanation' reply] "Well, basically, since Kliener's lab is bang in the centre of City 17, he had to find a way of magically changing its dimensions and vertical position in order to evade capture. So he used a peculiar Xen teleport trick that allowed dimensions in the real world to appear inconstantly proportioned and positioned. He tried it first on the City 17 trainstation clock in order to test its effect, hence why it disappears between the beginning of the game and the Anticitizen chapter."

2. [The 'ooh, I know pop culture if I quote the simpsons!' reply] "A Wizard did it."

3. [The 'After a page or so, it's time to state the obvious' reply] "VALVe screwed up. It's a computer game, get over it"

4. [The 'Samon after three pages of a dead topic' reply] "You screwed up, I screwed your mother."

You might as well complain that the signs on Highway 17 aren't rusted enough.

My God. Who'd have thoguht this topic would warrant such discussion! You people have got way to much time on your hands! :burp:
