Supprised I didnt find any already existing threads on this. Theres an FPS currently in development where you win real money as you play. It seems as simple as that anyway.
Still cant believe no one has mentioned this, it gives those with FPS experience a good advantage. My friend plays online poker but I honestly cant and probably wont ever understand that game properly, thats why this interests me a bit more. Link to youtube vid below.

Didn't want to clog up the thread with a youtube vid embedded, it seems to do it automatically. sorry bout that.

Playing video game...
Making money...
Scam.

It's games like this that will eventually ruin the industry.
You pay money for ammunition!?
What kind of a moron do you have to be to fall for a scam such as this?
This is worse then the Korean mmorpg system where you pay for in game items.

Have Him Bant!!!!

wow, what a constructive contribution to the discussion.

I'm just interested in others opinions, since the whole playing for money thing does interest me (what with online poker, second life etc. it all seems to be getting bigger by the minute), and I wonder whether it'll work for an FPS. I think it might, and I'm at least keen to try it out, if theres a practice mode or something. the only problem is that its not very pretty to look at (from the ingame footage in the vid) which is offputting, like a poor Quake II mod...

It's called gambling. You have to pay money to play it, and that money goes into a pot that the winner gets. I'm actually quite good at poker, many an interesting game on WToP on xbox live. I'm a kickass bluffer.

Duh!I just remembered that online gambling was banned.
Here's hoping that this turd doesn't get released.

well it is being released in the UK and some other parts of Europe I think. Is ALL online gambling banned over there? Including online poker and such??

Ok, now this is just, Unreal Tournament 1 cross between Hellgate; placed inside the story from Eve.
I mean "The coming of the jump gates"... T_T

Saw an interview with the games designers (on xleague.tv) outlining the ideas of being able to wager how much you want to bet per life (-$1 per death was lowest) and the bonus structures in place. The more you bet the more you can potentially win (and lose). Capture the flag style gaming with an increasing jackpot could be pretty frantic and fun but losing money for being fragged doesnt really tickle my goat! As they were detailing it in dollars then I guess this bypasses the US online gambling laws?? Graphically doesnt look anymore than what's on the market (if not a little dated) but that is debateable until it's official release and play testing.

It'll be interesting to see how this one goes....I'll be watching it for sure.

pay to play?? Hmmmmmmm.....

Sorry this game has a matching system and hence it is impossible to keep winning money. Eventually you'll only be pitted against people of very similar skill levels and you'll barely all keep a 1:1 KD ratio. Profits gone.

That's the idea. So new players can take over.

No doesn't work that way. The lesser skilled can only become better at the same or lesser rate than the pros. No matter who you are YOU WILL NOT MAKE MONEY. How can you play better than those of similar skill levels? The entire system is a scam.

They have to balance the playing skills else you'll just get wiped out by the better players! Least you will then have a chance of winning a few dollars if you know the skills are balanced. Makes for a fairer game does it not? BUT I can see the point of not making much money.

Kyorisu is right, you will NOT make money. In the long run you may get close to breaking even but a certain percentage has to go to the house so you will still lose money. Don't forget that in addition to the matching system, this game is likely to attract people who fancy themselves as better at FPS games than people who are new to it, so you're already starting at more of a disadvantage than in a typical game and it will only get worse the better you do and the longer you play.

This will be far more expensive than your average game and probably not nearly as enjoyable.

You might make a few bucks...the first time. Continual playing of this game will only lead to you loosing money.
