You know in Sandtraps, how Lazlo get's killed (most of the time) and his buddy tells you to move along, and that he has "something to do", what does he mean by that?

Suicide?
Bury Lazlo?

I never figured it out.

BTW i think it was Lazlo not sure.
 
It is Lazlo, and he is a true hero in all our hearts. When the wind blows, then the rain pours down my window, I shed a tear for Lazlo. He gave so much and asked for nothing in return. We will remember him, there will never be another like him.
 
Hmmm. As far as I know, Laslo cannot be saved (i.e. he dies every time). Laidlaw comments on him, at some length, in his essay, "The Hypermodern Muse."

How many minor, named characters are there in HL2 anyway? Does that lady who readies Gordon's mudskipper have a name?
 
Most characters have names if you check their sound files.

What Laszlo's friend wants to do is kill himself, sad but true. ;(
 
You know, opening the GCF files and finding them. They're ususlly named "John_blah01" or the like.

Ahhh.

Oh, it would appear Lazlo's friend was named Sandy. Then there was the crane operator Noriko (whose name is mangled in the in-game dialogue). Whatisname, the Resistance guy at Shorepoint...and so on.

As far as Sandy's ultimate fate is concerned, I'll hazard a guess it wasn't anything too rosy. Though I don't know that we should assume he killed himself. Maybe he just wanted to bury his old pal...in an...uh...antlion burrow?
 
well..i actually made sure he survived a few times i played..
 
Probably Sandy. Laszlo always dies, it's a scripted sequence.
 
lazlo always dies of course, I killed all the antlions without it touching them and then his body just went numb..

And what names? I don't see any names in my CGFscape...

I go to Source sounds>hl2>sounds>vo>npc and there are only maleand female there and some others.

It think it might be the same with the first citizen behind bars at the Overwatch Nexus (the one in the smaller adjoining building). I'm sure I've managed to kill the Combine Guard inside before he had a chance to shoot the prisoner, but the guy drops dead as I come through the door nonetheless.
 
Now here's something I found odd:



I happened upon this unhappy couple while exploring the zombie tunnel in "Sand Traps" today. Someone atypically for dead citizens, they are neither charred beyond recognition, nor bloodied. Clearly, they've never been zombified either...

Maybe I should've looked around for a suicide note.
 
What Sandy had to do was avenge his friend, gathering up some weaponry from a resistance cache and heading down into the antlion tunnel network to wage a one-man war against xenotherus myrmidon.

At the end of the tunnels chapter in Episode 2, just before you're set upon by hordes of pissed-off workers, drones, and guards, a giant explosion overhead will divert their attention and take out a few of them, allowing you to escape. If you look up through the smoke and debris, you catch a shadowed resistance member taunting the antlions and firing his shotgun.

Fight on, Sandy. Fight on for Laszlo.

WHoa...dynamical shadows...how?
 
Well, I certainly didn't run anything through a "particle benchmark." Not deliberately, anyway. Those particular shadows are cast by Gordon's flahslight, though that probably doesn't explain anything.

Me, I'm just struck by how crappy the textures on the floor and wall look.

Wait do they tell what Sandy had to do in episode 2 or did you just assume this?

Sometimes it's a man, and s/he doesn't always die. An expeditious gunning down of the pursuing Combine will allow the citizen to a) escape harm and b) pick up a shotgun and join the party.

EDIT: I just replayed that scene and noticed there are actually two citizens who flee down that stairwell in two different scripted sequences. I'm sure you can save the first one, but it's possible the second one cannot be saved.
 
its till hard to believe you have got shadows in there. i really want to know how you did that..

I'm pretty sure those are map shadows. The Particle benchmark has a icon at the bottom for the flashlight.

Also the guy on the right, his arm isn't self shadowing.
 
Speaking of which, is EP 2 out now?

If so, i pray for us Europeans, that some smartass doesn't come here and post a thread about what happens.

how some ppl seem to have the particle benchmark. i tried to dload it once, but the stupid server kept resetting itself and my dload always ended, so i gave up..
 
Hmm I don't want to crash the party but it seems that I have to...I killed all the Antlions in the Laslo part (i swear to god i did it with shotty!) and he said something like...hmm can't remember.




Maybe Laslo wants to set the mood and have buttsecks lol. Maybe that man wants to fell unsupressed by the combine and butter some biscuits EH?!
