After being teased all the way back in August on the Valve Linux blog the Linux version of Left 4 Dead 2 has finally reached official release. Also coming out of beta is the Extended Mutation System which allows players to use the in-game mutation system to create new game modes and share them using Left 4 Dead 2's Steam Workshop section. This should lead to a big leap in the variety of gameplay on offer.
The final major point of the update is the transferring of Left 4 Dead 2 to Valve's SteamPipe system. This promises faster booting, faster loading, faster downloads and easier mod management. Users who already have the game installed will need to wait through a conversion process the next time they try to launch the game which may take a few minutes.
