Hey i was just wondering if there was some way to get an offline version of Half Life 2 and say...Put it on a CPU that has No access to the internet??

All HL2 accounts must be verified once by connecting to the internet, then after that they may go into offline mode.

crap...that means i would have to buy HL2, get a steam account, take my CPU to my friends (cuz i dont have internet) and install all the crap, and never shut my computer off.. (because when you turn it on you have to be connected at first because it doesnt let u play games when your in offline mode)

So you created a thread whining about being a newbie, dumped a whole lotta spam, and you havent even bought the game yet. Right.

And yes, you can play games in offline mode, just not with anybody else.

Holy crap, your right! How did you get so many posts and you joined in January? Anyways, you need to have a Steam account to play offline, plus the game.
Oh and btw, how do you go into Online mode anyways?

Online mode? That's the one you're set in auto if an internet connection is detected. The only way to get into Offline mode (that I have seen) is to start Steam, without an internet connection. It will hang there for about 30 seconds trying to find the web, then it will present you with an option to continue in Offline mode. Pull the jack out of your modem, see for yourself.

it happend to me all the time, cause im on a network and it takes a few min for it to find the network so it always askes me what to do, it was annoying so i too it off auto start up.

Guys, hi there...I was wondering if one could play offline as well. From what I understand, every time you want to play, the game checks on the 'net for a valid account and then lets you play???? I have been having this error message that keeps on popping up, the steam servers are currently too busy to handle your request, etc. etc. Well this sucks, they are never too busy when it's time to get your money. This is real bull...you know what, in my opinion. I bought the game as I do the correct thing, but I don't see why one has to be subjected to this kind of crap, excuse my french!!!

If the steam servers are too busy, means that there is too much traffic and the servers can't handle that, whose brain dead idea was this in the first place?? Sorry about this, but I am trying to vent some steam....excuse the pun also...I have been sitting here for a couple of hours now....it's ridiculous...

Regards to all

Ok. I asked how do you play it offline because whenever i try to play any Steam games when its offline it says "This action cannot be completed in offline mode" so is there something in the settings where you can make it so you can play in offline mode??

Check game properties in Steam for HL2 and make sure that the game is 100% updated from the net. You will not be able to play the game offline until it is 100% updated, which is should do automatically when Steam is online.

The steam support help has information on how to run the game in offline mode indefinately... There is a file you can back up that stores the information kinda like xp's activation stuff.

MY mom's comptuer has been running steam offline for since 2 weeks after it came out.

You just made three sentences out of four words. You are an idiot, and a noob, please refrain from living.
Oh, and have fun putting it on your CPU, and bringing your CPU to your friend's house. I prefer to put most of my games on my heatsink personally, occasionally i just shove games like BF2 on my soundcard, but yea. Good game. Idiot.

Wow. Your retarded.

Wow. Your retarded.

And your number of sentences can easily be found by this equation

s=w-1

Where s is the number of sentences, and w is the total amount of words in your entire post.

Ohh, and in that case, it's "you're". Err.. take an English class.

Do not call anyone retarded if they have more post counts than you.

Unless he/she joined the forum 3+ months before you did.

anyway, glad that you found the answer to your problem. Peace.
