Inspired by the "Favorite Titles" thread, and all the story speculation we've been doing in this period of new information downtime, let's come up with some chapter titles. They can be based on predictions you think the story will take, renaming old chapter titles, or even humorous titles. It's for fun more than accurately predicting where the story's gonna go. :)

-Episode One-

Terminal Velocity - This would've been another good name for Exit 17. We're not like to see another trainstation again, but this makes for a good title for such an area.

-Episode Two-

Outlands - Or perhaps Outland 17 (but the 17 attachment is getting too frequent, and at this point it'd be good for a change). Something to describe the wastes without actually calling it "The Wastes."

Bugged Network - For the antlion tunnels.

Tunnel Vision - Different title for the same area.

Escape Velocity - Escape velocity is the term for the minimum speed an object needs to clear gravitational pull, such as a rocket leaving Earth's orbit. For the chapter where we see Dr. Kleiner and his mysterious rocket. It'd work great if this was also in the chapter where Gordon is speeding around in his rebel sweeper-car.

Parabolic Momentum - Also a different title for the rocket chapter. The upward curve of a parabolic trajectory is referred to as the escape orbit. Momentum signifies both the movement, as well as being an entendre for something big or important about to happen, which that rocket undoubtedly is for. I also think this'd be a good title for any future Xen travel, since the way local teleportation works now (the slingshot, curving around Xen and coming back to Earth) is something like a parabola.

Downshift - Ex post Barney.

-Episode Three and Beyond-

Expedition - If Gordon ever goes offworld.

A Sight for One - Quite unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever see Xen again. But if we do, homage should be paid by naming the chapter after the original .bsp, c4a1. "See four a one," "A Sight for One." Could also be "A Site for One." The "One" could also denote the vortigaunts, especially if it were "A Site for One."

Misunderstood Servant of the People - I think the text in G-man's npc file would make an excellent chapter title about him.

Incongruous Alignment - Also for the G-man. I actually like this one better than the other.

On Ice - Chapter for the project up north.

Phase Transition - Title for any drastic change or development that might occur. Generally refers to the switching between states of matter, but it can also be used in the less scientific context of a change from one thing to another. "Phase" can be used as "era" too, so from Combine occupation to human control?

Moment of Inertia - In physics, it's used to describe the rotational motion of a rigid body, but taking the words separately and putting them into context makes it sound like, "brief period of inactivity." Good for downtime, and "the calm before the storm." Maybe before the hammer of the Combine falls on Earth a second time?

This is for Episode Two.

"THE WASTELANDS" - Before the train crashes.

SURVIVOR - Before going down into the tunnels.

UNEXPLORED TERRITORY - Going down into the antlion tunnels.

BIOLOGICAL HAZARD - Further inside.

CROSSFIRE - Travelling across Overwatch-infested woods.

BREAKTHROUGH - Getting to the silo, and decoding the data.

"RUN, FREEMAN" - Cornered by the Overwatch, where a character dies.

Total Internal Reflection - A dream sequence (joke, no dreams in HL please).
Point of Origin - Traveling to the Combine homeworld or something like that.
Saturation Point - Underwater, antlion attack (being saturated with antlions) or someting.
"We Remember the Freeman" - Return to Xen with the Vortigaunts
Infestation - Headcrabs attacking a resistance/Combine base, could have a Gonarch ^_^.

Doubtful Allegiances (could suit a theme to Mossman and Breen or to Gman and his purpose)

Myrmidont peril.
Stirring up the hive.

Guerilla Tactics (open fighting)
Open Warfare
Overwhelming forces

Launch into oblivion
Portal Storm

The Project

Too bad my i can't be that creative with my english. Therefore I will point out the suggesitons i like:

"Misunderstood Servant of the People"

"We Remember the Freeman"

Terminal Velocity - it's a variation on escape velocity; basically it's, you know, the speed at which an object can no longer accelerate. IDK. It's be good for another buggy bit...

The Cake is a Lie - www.apeturescience.com

Ockam's Razor - idk. Something to do with Razor Trains?

Murphy's Law - If only there was a character named Murphy in the HL series...

Correspondance Principle - Talking between someone else somewhere? Conversing with somebody....

Absolute Time - Meh.

Differential Equasion - Hmmm. I'm just throwing up random scientific thingies from wikipedia, if you must know.

Exponential Decay - although I think Decay has been used already.

Potential Energy - Same with Energy.

Special Relativity - I have no idea what this could be used for.

Transistor Gate - ...portal?

Divided we fall
Out of harms way
"Look at these readings!"
thats all i can think off

Event Horizon would be great name for Gordon entering the synth-universe...Tipp: you have to think of scientific names first, final destination is an epic name, too bad it's already taken^^ As good as all names that darky came up w/ are great, he's a good writer, he roxx *thums-up*quantum overdrice might a teleport scene of sorts, but momentum still doesn't get out of my mind...No, it's not taken from Portal, as its levels are simply dubbed 'level 13' and so on...Shit, I need inspiration...Most chapter names have some nice connection to its content (I think Laidlaw is responsible for this), such as exit and highway 17, sandtraps, direct intervention and so on... energy-yeild and what-have-you (correct me if I'm wrong, I'm only german)

I think event horizon is an overused phrase in sci-fi :P

Hmm...*checking wiki* momentum was already mentioned by darkside...you might only improve it.. Meh, I need something with a negative message...what's the words...Last resort kina comes to my mind now...duh..
hey, what about biotic outbreak? Suicidal insistance?! I'm just trying to read thru all the dialouges and captions sentences txts to come up with some persiflage...shrug

Hmmm. Might start raiding Medical Terminology.

"Singularity" - any crucial moment in the storyline
"Interference Pattern" - infiltration / sabotage
"Point Source" - something portal-storm-related, or a boss-battle-esque thing
"Force Field" - outdoors area, possibly vehicle level

Freemen's Bureau - Gordon on the run from Combine in ep. 2
Lordy Lordy, there's some Vorti - Xen level
That's all I've got for now.

I still think they should stick with the Scientific stuff as long as possible.

Yeah, but still 'outbreak. outbre-' is a cool title, despite lack of scientificness. well, I also picture anticitizen one as a possible inspiration. There was a chapter called like that, wasn't there?

So Cold - mission with project in arctic

Infestation - part in Antlion caves

Country Life - chapter in the country, farm and forests

Delta-v - mission in rocket silo ("In astrodynamics delta-v is a scalar measure for the amount of "effort" needed to carry out an orbital maneuver, i.e., to change from one orbit to another. A delta-v is typically provided by the thrust of a rocket engine.")

A Sight for One - Quite unfortunately, I don't think we'll ever see Xen again.

Nooooooo! I loved Xen!!!

The jumping puzzles were hard sure, but honestly, it was a great level! Especially when you had to jump up onto those mata ray things... But then again, Xen was probably invaded by the combineso it might never come back, unless you want to fight 10 synths, 30 striders and the whole bunch of new, destructive technology.

(That first bit was a quote)

I don't think they reached Xen yet. In fact I'm pretty certain of it. But we'll still probably never see our loveable floating-rock dimension again. ;(

Some of these are pretty funny. "Lordy Lordy, there's some Vorti" had me laughing, and I liked "Outbreak outbreak outbre-." That'd be a real good zombie level title.

Oh, there are some nice kind of parody titles on hlcomic.com

!!! GO THERE !!!

OK, I don't mean to double post, but my 'edit button' isn't showing up right now (right beside the quote button right???)

If the combine have not yet reached Xen, then how is it that the vortigants new about them??? (aside from being teleported here and living among us for the past 20 years) Also, if the combine ARE from another dimension, odds are that they'd have to pass through 'the membrane'. Ie, a border world, mainly because they were attracted by the portal storms. I doubt they were able to teleport here without a citdael pre-established.

The Combine chased the Vortigaunts and their master, Nihilanth, from their homeworld to Xen. It's stickied at the top of the forum FFS.

Yeah, I knew that, but I assumed that the combine would have to pass or go through XEN in order to make it to Earth... That's why it would (in theory) make sense as to why I said the combine made it to XEN

You said how did the Vortigaunts know about them, well, it's pretty hard not to notice when a hostile alien force is attacking, especially if you have a group mind.
