Personally, I don't like it very much. For a game that's supposed to cram immersion into you by the bucketload, it's very annoying to be nearly defeated by boars and wild bears on the road, or find bandits with Daedric Armour trying to do you in. I mean, guys! You're carrying at the very least 1k worth of armour! Just sell it and buy a shack in the Imperial City!

The loot system is weird too. In Morrowind I remember entering dungeons (very, very occasionally... travel was sooooo slow in Morrowind) and coming out with unique and awesome loot. In oblivion i enter dungeon after dungeon and come out with misc. tidbits. Not so fun.

I can't deny that Oblivion is a fun, great, game. I can deny that the Levelling system makes it the best game eva.

Yeah, I love this game and I sneer at all the people bringing up the RPG/not-an-RPG debate, but the levelling system really really sucks tbh.

For a start, a character's level is an abysmally inaccurate way of judging their overall strength, especially when you have such varied skills as mercantile, speechcraft, alchemy, etc. in the game, and all those can affect a character's level.

So, when you reach a certain level the game pitches storm atronachs at you, for example. You'll get these as enemies regardless of whether you're some sneaky argonian who still can't kill a mudcrab, or you're some awesomely powerful tank. That's screwed up. Level is just too poor a way of judging a character's overall strength.

Essentially it works out that many characters HAVE to fiddle the levelling system, or else you could even end up with an unplayable game. Like my argonian who is veeery sparing with his sleep, because the game is plenty challenging enough already without the enemies making another irrational leap in strength. The fact that the levelling system can actually **** up your game for good - for instance if your major skills are all fast-levelling non-combat ones and you're not too clear on how the enemies work - just says it all really. Bad, bad.

i voted no too, Lavaisse summed it up. What is the best levelling mod out there though btw? i'd really like to get back into Oblivion but the levelling system atm for me any my character( im a thief with awful blunt and blade skills) puts me off.

I haven't tried any creature levelling mods because I'm waiting to try and figure out how they work first... but someone just said that this one is good.

I use Seth's item scaling mod to stop levelled items, that's all.

EDIT- got the name wrong, it's seth's NPC equipment rarity...
