Little Help with the 3DS Max SMD Export Plugin

I downloaded a 3DS model (.max) that I want to be able to load in Garry's Mod. (If you want to download the model in question, it's located here: http://www.buckky.com/ncc1701.htm) So, I downloaded the 3DS Max trial, and installed the SMD Exporter plugin. (http://www.wunderboy.org/sourceapps.php#max_smd)

I opened up the model, and tried exporting it as a SMD. It finished compiling almost instantly. Here's the log that showed up:

I thought, "Hmm, that's weird. Shouldn't it have more than 0 nodes?" And sure enough, when I looked at the exported SMD, it was only 62 bytes in size. Obviously, it wasn't exporting correctly.

Is the model too detailed, (47,000 polys) and that's what's causing it no not work? I tried optimizing the model, down to less than 20,000 polys, but that caused the texture to become all warped, and it still wouldn't export anyway.

I don't know whether it's just my low knowledge of 3D modeling, or a problem with the model itself, so could someone else with 3DS Max try to export it, please?
