Lock picking done easy

so, you click on the double plink? i think ill stick to my way of waiting for it to slowly go up

EDIT: after watching the video again, i noticed that his and my way are the same... :\

sorry guys I should have posted the instructions:

"There are three tumbler speeds. As you can see in the video, the slow tumbler produces a distinct one-two pinging sound, whereas the fast tumblers squish the sounds together close enough for them to sound like a single sound.

The trick is to look away from the screen and click the mouse based solely on what you hear as you jiggle the lockpick. Click the mouse within 250ms of hearing that second ping to lock the tumbler in place every time."

Or you can just watch until you see the tumbler go up nice and slow then click it easily :P

It takes me like 30 or so seconds to pick a very hard lock.

...

Or go for the Skeleton Key which renders all locks irrelevant

I have been doing this fo r a while now. I find it easier to listen for the different clicks than to watch for it.

I was just about to post that

the key fixes all

The way I do it, I tap them till they fall fastest, then the next tap will be the longest it stays up.

Easy enough.

And noclip wouldent fix 90% of lockpicking. ;)
Since alot are chests and doors that load new areas.

My lockpicking trick is to cast Insight: Locksmiths, which gives me something like a 60 bonus to security for a fre seconds and then hit auto pick.

Just wait until the pin falls quickly, the next time it goes up will be slowly. I could do it without any sound.

Edit: Same as WhiteZero.

Or you could open the console, click your mouse on the chest in question, type unlock and then close the console. Of course I don't do that. I do the "after the fast one" method.

What exactly is security supposed to do? I pick locks just as well as I did with level 1 security.. and I'm at about 45 now..

I thought there was a level requirement for that quest. At least, that's what it said when I got it.

I think it makes fewer tumblers fall back down if you cock up.

There is, but it's only level 10.

Alright, the skeleton key makes all security a joke (hope you didn't major in the skill). It adds +40 to Security and it's unbreakable, yup no more wasting lockpicks :E

How to get Skeleton Key

1. Get to level 10 (requirement)
2. Go to the Southern-most town on the map (forgot the name, I'll edit it in later)
3. Follow the path and head north-east direction, you'll eventually pass a small town.
4. Go past that town and get off the road to the right, you'll see a big statue with 3 people that's called Shrine of the Nocturnal.
5. Talk to the shrine, you'll be given a quest.
6. Head back to town and ask people about the item you're to acquire (Eye of something), you'll eventually be asked to listen in on two thieves.
7. You'll be given directions on the map via green arrow, follow it and retrieve the eye and return to the Shrine of the Nocturnal.
8. Voila! Skeleton key is yours!

Same.

Tap a tumbler up, if it moves back down the next time you tap it up it is slow.

It is alternative: Slow/fast/slow/fast/slow/fast. Just takes a few taps to see the starting order.

Easy.

You could always get the Unbreakable Lockpick and then spam "Auto-Attempt".

Yeah but there's an awful lot of locks to pick before you get to level 10. At least, the way I play.

Definitely the most handy spells I have. I'm actually going to start an alternate character soon, a sneaky theif murderer type guy - thanks AiM for the skeleton key guide.

it really does help to turn away and just listen to it ...trying some new techniques last night I opened a few 4 tumbler locks breaking breaking 2 picks with only a one quickload in between ..it actually works

Figured this out awhile ago. Easier for me to watch the screen AND listen though.

On my sneaky/thiefy type character I have marksman/sneak as majors and security as a minor, this way I can go spam locks for awhile to get those tasty +5's to agility. I just go find a hard/very hard lock and keep picking all but one tumbler for awhile, since the skill-ups are done per tumbler instead of per lock :)

(that or find a trainer)

I figured this out today and i'm only on level 2.
