In a recent interview with Kikizo, Doug Lombardi revealed that Valve may show Half-Life 2: Episode Three at the very end of the year, he also talked about Left 4 Dead and the acquisition of Turtle Rock.

Kikizo: Won't you announce or show anything on Episode 3 this year?[br]

Lombardi: We may at the very end of the year.

You can find the full interview here.

ooo Interesting...

Although I wont to try and avoid Ep3 info (vids, screens) for as long as i can to try and not spoil it as much.

Episode 3: coming September 30th 2010

This. I thought Episode Three was in the works since before Episode Two shipped (nearly one year ago), and we're only now hearing anything about Episode Three, and about a slim chance we'll be shown Episode Three at the end of the year? This is a joke.

I hope that once L4D is released they can focus on Episode 3 for a while and release a bit more info about it, rather than spending the rest of the year updating TF2 more than they already have.

Great interview. Im expecting episode 3 info to start really kicking in end of jan early feb.

There are well over 100 employees working at Valve, and at no point are they all working on the same project, there is a TF2 team, a L4D team, a HL2 team, a steam team, a portal team, and so on, yes they have been gearing up for Left 4 Dead this last few months so that has been the companies media focus, but dont think think they all suddenly start working on one thing, that just isnt how things work, episode 3 will appear when its good and ready.

I mainly meant focusing on it in terms of releasing media or just new information. Of course they've been working on several things at once but I'm sure there are staff members who can help out with any of the games they develop.

Those bitches. :D

Anyway, I'm pretty sure they stated they didn't want to show any media or news of the game until they get everything nailed down, instead of releasing something like the "OMG ALYX DIES" Episode 2 trailer only for it to be changed up totally. I don't understand people's deals.

The moment they actually show us Episode 3, its going to shit all over L4D in terms of attention... They want L4D to get as much attention as possible, so its understandable they wont reveal anything until after L4D has been out and sold a good amount. Just like when they were showing off the orange box and getting ready to release that, they didnt want to talk about L4D too much...

i also simply think valve really wants us to be suprised with what we see when Ep3 footage comes out, so they will wait and make things as good as possible, then show us. They're sure doing something fishy with episode 3, ill tell you that...

I consider any HL related things a privilage to hear about, never expecting it.

The usual game drop date this late in the year is, what, mid-late November (to hit the Christmas shopping rush), no? To release it in, say, mid December or later seems unusual. I would be ecstatic nonetheless.

Lol I can see it now...

Wait at the L4D in-game menu for 1 minute for a secret Episode 3 trailer.

I'm tired of people bitching about Ep3's release date as if its length is soo unexpected.

News Flash: Ep3 was never going to be finished this year and the lack of media is due to a marketing focus on L4D rather than a lack of progress.

This is a joke.
Your post?

Don't come in here with your logic and your reason, sonny. We'll have none of that here!

We need to mount and frame this post just so people are aware how long it takes Valve to develop their games to the quality they demand. I'm sick of people moaning they don't get new episodes every month. In fact the blas? nature in which they expect Valve to complete a service they make seem is owed to them, is ridiculous. News before the end of this year will be brilliant, most likely I reckon we'll see a trailer. :)

Damn right! If they released episodes every 1-3 months we'd get a lot of broken stories, bugs and old graphics.

Why bother calling it episodic if they're going to take forever to release each installment? They're going to maybe...possibly..show us a glimpse of episode 3 by the end of the year, so it's unlikely we'll be playing the game until mid to late 2009 at the earliest..knowing valve probably much later than that. I thought the whole point of "episodic content" was to keep the story moving and the content fresh without having to wait a millennium for another gigantic game like HL2. I'm not saying they should release half-assed episodes every few months, but IMO it makes no sense to have 2 year waiting periods between each installment.

Awesome news :3

At least we are getting SOMETHING rather than NOTHING.

Possibly a trailer on the 10th year anniversary?
I just want to see a trailer for it so much. The closest we've got to any media about it was that concept art.

Kikizo: When are we going to start to hear about Episode Three? Because the gaps seem to be quite long based on the first couple of episodes.

Lombardi: Yeah, the next time you play as Gordon will be longer than the distance between HL2 to Ep1, and Ep1 to Ep2.

Well, at least we got some info on the game's beginning.

I really want Left 4 Dead to come out! But anyway, they've given a rough idea of when they'll release L4D and so maybe we'll get some info on Episode 3 when L4D hits stores! Well anyway you know what they say, the best things in the life are the ones you wait for most!:p

Not completely true. I waited to lose my virginity since I knew what sex was. When I lost it I was drunk off my arse and when I woke up she was a dirty looking skank hoe. The only positive thing I could think of was "At least it wasn't a man."

That my friend, was not the best thing.

I like this idea of the video coming out on the 10th Anniversary (19th Nov) it would seem rather fitting coming out around the same time as L4D.

Valve always sucks in this. With Episode Two, they had that nice teaser. Then, like a year of silence, and after that they basically spoiled the whole game. They released the benchmark thing so people found out how for example Eli was going to die, the whole chapter with the car in Ep2 was shown in E3 videos along with like 50% of the other parts of the game. When I played Ep2 I already knew the places because Valve decided to make some dumb media bomb just near the release.

They should show a few pics monthly, then maybe one trailer and one gameplay video. Not do something as dumb as with Ep2.

Do we not all pay valve for their products? They should consider it a privilege that they have such loyal customers who will buy all of their products, especially with the sorry state of PC gaming today.

Sigged babe.

On a sort of related note, I wonder if Valve plan to release another book like Raising The Bar, detailing the Episodes, L4D, TF2 and Prospero if they ever get to making it.

It's not like I'm paying for something not out yet (not including pre-purchase and sorts). They make good game, they get good fanbase, nothing conceited about that.
It's done when it's done.

Woot! I'm just glad we heard something about it. People who say they can wait and that the game will be done when it's done don't truly love half-life.
