looking for mods & Addons

I Just started getting back into HL2. I saw a couple of video gameplay on youtube.com these guys were running some cool mods and addons. quick example one guy had a sniper rifle and another had a shovel. now i know about garry's mod. i already use it. but where can i find cool addons such as weapons, levels, skins etc. I have already beaten the game 3 times and im looking to throw something new into the game. thanks any suggestions?

Pirates, Vikings and Knights II is an awsome melee driven game (and the words Fun and Melee are very rarely used in the same sentence with Hl2)
Minerva is really cool, definately good if u like very cryptic stories.
Mistake of Pythagoras has some awsome puzzles in it. Not to mention it's just weird.
And Half Life: Substance, just because.

I'm new to HL2 as well and have been scouting out some of the cooler mods, found this bit on Wiki:

Based on my personal experience thus far, SMOD is a clear winner, as is RAVENHOLM... also check out MINERVA (short but sweet episodic) and DYSTOPIA as well.

And yes, BLACK MESA is the one to watch for.

Excellent post. I was just going to post something like it myself.

I was one of the many, many, many gamers that loved HL and all the expansions. So naturally I followed HL2 & was only too excited to stay up and allow the last part of the pre-load to finish @ 12:00am when HL2 finally went live.

The entire game was amazing (For it's time) but the intro & ending annoyed me so badly, that I never playing HL2 again or anything else HL2 related.

Now I have decided to give HL2 another try. So I went looking for mods.

Last night I downloaded "Redux". The readme that came with the file I downloaded was pretty much pointless, as it does not tell you how to accuratly get the mod installed let alone running. After finally figuring it out on my own, I head ingame. The mod was very buggy. Maps not loading correctly & AI not triggering to name a couple big problems. However, from what little I saw, the mod looks fantastic. Too bad it's so buggy.

I then downloaded the simply massive (Over 3GB!) "HL2 Cinematic 4.0" mod. Wow, amazing skin textures & clothing. (Whoa! Hope my wife don't see what Alyx is wearing!)Great weapon sounds & damage. So far, thats all I have noticed. Does it change much more? I don't want to play through the entire game again with only a few new skins & weapon sounds.

Those 2 are the only ones I have so far tried. I see several links to mods listed here. Which ones offer the best & longest Single Player gameplay?
