I want to make a video to demonstrate just how piss easy HL2 is for the most part & why I think gameplay wise it largely chews hat! I've been playing it again recently. It's a joke! Easy beyond belief.

Ok. Thanks for telling us.

What? You didn't ask anything!

Wowowee. I just can't wait to see this video... Please make sure to post it as soon as its finished.

Seriously though, I doubt anyone cares. Come back when you have something to say.

if its so incredibly easy, get a mod for it to make it harder. i havnt tried it yet but i heard the 'substance' mod is supposedly hard

Yeah might have to get that Substance mod. I'd like to have a difficulty setting where you took more damage from hits & gave more damage with hits. At least that way you'd be forced into cover & have to use a bit of tactics like on the first game.

The reason for this seemingly meaningless post is that I've been playing through HL2 on HARD again. Only it's just not hard at all! On Highway 17, the part where you have to lift a barrier by inserting batteries into the winch control, I tried just standing still on top of the overturned tanker & without moving took out all the Combine soldiers that were dropped off! It was pathetic! I just stood there taking hits while carefully aiming at the Combine & taking my time picking them off with various weapons. It was just painfuly easy.

I've heard people in the past say things like, "You should try to make the game more interesting". Eh? If the combat was more difficult (Like the first game) you wouldn't have to try. To some degree the game should play you as much as you play the game.

I really feel that the combat in HL2 doesn't come close to the original. Halo's combat system I still honestly think it's one of the best around (ducks to avoid incomming rotten tomato's!). The shield idea is simple but very effective. It forces you into cover when things get on top. Overall though I'd say that HL2 was a much better game than Halo but it's definitely not because of it's combat system. Thankfully it has enough to make up for it but I think that for HL3 Valve should concentrate on giving us a great game as much as an immersive & story driven adventure.

lol, moaning mini, if it's sooo easy, try it on a modded harder settings, if its still too easy your obviously l33t, but difficulty level's dont make an enjoyable game, and it depends on weither you enjoy a game just for the fact that its hard... Far cry put me off toward later levels, because it got really quite hard, even on medium difficulty Halo 2 wasnt all that hard either.. use cover, head shot's grenade's. use cover headshot's grenade, It got repetetive and bland along with the map design's so much it just becomes a mindless slaughter, so i stopped playing it., but I wont go on about it, everyone has different tastes.. so what do you expect really.. its a good idea to go download substance mod.

I've tried it on the HARD setting & it's just not hard. What the hell's l33t?

Difficulties don't make an enjoyable game. But surely you want a worthwhile challenge? HL2 just wasn't that challenging for the most part. As I said, It has enough to make up for it in just about every other department but gameplay feels neglected purely because it's just not that difficult. If it was more of a challenge (without the need for mods) then it would have been a much more memorable & long lasting journey.

your probably right, but essentially if valve included a higher difficulty setting above hard, it would be a 'modification' to the game anyway, its not too hard to mod certain NPC's health and accuracey so they prove a more solid challenge, you could even decrease the effectiveness of your weapon... thats the beauty of the game, if you feel its lacking something you can edit it , and add or take away things to your heart's content whilst keeping the core game intact.

True but it would have been nice to have that higher difficulty level actually in the game as an option. I even wrote to Gabe asking, begging, pleading for them to include an extra difficulty option or two. Never heard back :|

I understand that you can easily modify things like weapon effectivness, hit points & damage. I'd really like to look into this more & make some subtle changes to try & make the game more challening. I'd increase the players damage points & do the same to the Combine. I'd make the weapons more effective in terms of damage & probably slightly increase the Combine shot accuracy just a little to start with. That should help. Right, How do you do this? :E

you may find some useful information here http://www.valve-erc.com/srcsdk/, its programming related, best thing to do if you really want to change it , is ask or email a modification coder(programmer) from a public mod, or even valve about changing an NPC's hit points and weapon hit accuracey, it may be as simple as changing the info in a .txt file for the NPC, same for the weapons, but it may be more complex, which is why I suggest talking to someone who knows the ins and outs.

Someone pointed me in the direction of this mod a while back (Actually this link is for a new version just out);

http://halflife2.filefront.com/file/;35646

Not tried it yet though. This sounds like it might go some way to sorting things out a bit. From the difficulty mod Read me file;

This is a mod which changes the difficulty to a suitable level.
What used to be the "hard" mode is now something a little below medium.
I have made theese changes with the Half Life 1 difficulty settings in mind.

*Note* Unlike a lot of other difficulty mods this only changes the damage that npc:s and monsters does.
Not the enemy HitPoints.
The zombies can still be killed with a barrel for example.
After some testing i came to the conclusion that this gave the most enjoyable experience throughout the entire game, and it never gets impossible (i have completed the game on hard with this mod)

Sounds like the creator of this mod had exactly the same feelings about the games challenge as I've had.

The problem is that the Combine suffer a slightly more realistic damage now. Then can only take a few hits before going down whereas you'd have to pour roughly a whole SMG clip into a HL Marine to drop him.

Thats where the problem lies. Well that and the Combine seem more concerned that they're taking fire.

Well, I'm sorry your such a nerd, that your a perfect gamer. Deal with it. Some of us, don't want to spend hours playing video games, because we can't get past 1 section.

I think HL felt wrong, about having to put in a whole SMG clip into a marine, didn't feel right.....

No of course not. It's much better to wait 6 years for a game & then simply rush through it in a few hours! You sound like your not that interested in actually playing games at all.
