Can you imagine being that old, and still single?

:P

Being alive at 115 must be the most miserable thing I'd' think. You can't tend for yourself, you can't really..do anything for yourself.

It looks like he died a week ago and they propped him up for a photo op.

What's wrong with his eyes? THEY'RE FREAKING ME OUT

He's brushing his own hair - he's already in better shape than a lot of old folks. It seems like once they pass the 100 mark, they're not bedridden so much. Whatever's kept them in good health is keeping them able to at least amble around a bit.

i wonder when he turned 100, he felt like he'd live for another 15 years?

That'd be wierd, seeing all the technology change throughout your life... living straight through the 20th century, I would admire him, but he looks so damn freaky.

The average human lifespan seems to be going up pretty steadily. Wasn't that long ago that most people didn't live past 30-40. Now, that's still considered pretty young.

I can't imagine living that old. What would you do?

If he had a plush headcrab on his head I might think he was a zombie (the eyes do it). Except he still has color in his skin.

He has 6 years to go, oldest man was 121.

Actually, some studies have suggested that the current generation could be the first to actually have a predicted lifespan shorter than the generation preceding them (what with obesity, diabetes and what have you). In the Western civilisation, that is.

And no, I'm not stating that that must be the case, merely that it's a view among others.

I'll see if I can find a source or two.

115? I thought it said 155 for a moment!
Still, thats an incredible age.
You do that Potemkin :p

Wow, 115 years... Thats a damn long time.
Like someone said, i bet it was pretty amazing to see how the world has changed from 1890-something to now. I mean he's seen the first planes, cars, electricity being used on a larger scale, computers, the "first man on the moon" and everything thats happened since then.

EDIT: Ok i have NO idea what happened here... Sorry :(
Mod fix please <3

Biotechnology (especially concerning sir2) is probably gonna change all that.

If I was that old I'd use Botox.

And these 70 - 90 year olds complain about reduced mobility! Pfft.

There are supposed to have been people who lived past 122, but they didn't have any proof of their age, so couldn't qualify.

What surprises me is that you see these people who are 100+ years old on the TV, and they seem, well, to be reasonably well-off. Talking, gesturing, in a good mental state. 3 or 4 years ago, I saw a pretty well-known Russian guy on TV who was then 102 years old. He looked simply great, and was going on about all the 20th century events.

What I'm saying is, these people who live for over a century often seem better off than those who are 80-85. I mean, people at that age are often quite unable to take care of themselves. Then again, I have a neighbour who turned either 81 or 82 this summer, and he appears to be doing great, can see him outside or in the supermarket often, and he looks more like 65.

Yeah, I think you gotta be pretty well-off, both physically and mentally, if you wanna live past 100.

To bad he lived through the booring and the most destructive parts of the history (recent history) and has to die now when all the cool stuff comes. Im happy to be young now because i get to experiance all the new stuff, i will regret it when im older because then there will be even cooler things and people will say "it must have been booring for him to live at that time because there was no new things, now is the time when new things happens" and then he will....you get the point.

LOL. This is the most boring and most destructive parts of history? Have you been living under a rock? The younger parts of his life contained the worse parts of history, not these later years.

And its even arguable that history much further in the past was far more destructive. Holy wars, plague, and all that stuff.

Although the average lilfespan is increasing the rate of aging has stayed the same throughout all of history.

Let me explain: If you look at the statistics, an older person is much more likely to die than a young person, common sense right. This is because their body has worn down from age. It's something along the lines that a 60 year old person is 10 times as likely to die in the next year than a 20 year old no matter the country or society or historical period (Except for places where they send 20 year olds to fight in wars). This relation hasn't changed significantly in any historical statistics. Also, if you look at old photographs of 60 year olds, they look about the same as 60 year olds today. They just died of sickness because they had poorer health care back then.

Messing with the aging process is nasty business.

Also, just because a country has a mortality rate of, say, 35, doesn't mean that people aged 35 tend to die of age or sickness a lot, it's because that country has a high infant mortality rate, which brings down the numbers a lot.

MmMmMmmMM a high infant mortality rate...

What country was this?

my great grandpa is 115 last june. He's the saddest person on the face of the earth. He now is getting delusional, and thinks he's living in the 20's again.

EDIT: come to think of it he was only 114.

Make sure he lives 2 more years..TO THE BOOKS WITH HIM!.

*real notes* I can't justify letting people live that long. The mans DELUSIONAL for gods sake, he's already living in dream land...take him out back and put him out of his misery!

Woohoo! Wow...

Thank God I'm never gonna look like that.
