Can you imagine being that old, and still single?

It looks like he died a week ago and they propped him up for a photo op.
Biotechnology (especially concerning sir2) is probably gonna change all that.Actually, some studies have suggested that the current generation could be the first to actually have a predicted lifespan shorter than the generation preceding them (what with obesity, diabetes and what have you). In the Western civilisation, that is.
And no, I'm not stating that that must be the case, merely that it's a view among others.
I'll see if I can find a source or two.
He has 6 years to go, oldest woman was 122.
Yeah, I think you gotta be pretty well-off, both physically and mentally, if you wanna live past 100.What surprises me is that you see these people who are 100+ years old on the TV, and they seem, well, to be reasonably well-off. Talking, gesturing, in a good mental state. 3 or 4 years ago, I saw a pretty well-known Russian guy on TV who was then 102 years old. He looked simply great, and was going on about all the 20th century events.
What I'm saying is, these people who live for over a century often seem better off than those who are 80-85. I mean, people at that age are often quite unable to take care of themselves. Then again, I have a neighbour who turned either 81 or 82 this summer, and he appears to be doing great, can see him outside or in the supermarket often, and he looks more like 65.
Oh, the Eastern civilisation won't live longer either. They'll be too busy blowing each other up :|In the Western civilisation, that is.
To bad he lived through the booring and the most destructive parts of the history (recent history) and has to die now when all the cool stuff comes. Im happy to be young now because i get to experiance all the new stuff, i will regret it when im older because then there will be even cooler things and people will say "it must have been booring for him to live at that time because there was no new things, now is the time when new things happens" and then he will....you get the point.
Although the average lilfespan is increasing the rate of aging has stayed the same throughout all of history.
Let me explain: If you look at the statistics, an older person is much more likely to die than a young person, common sense right. This is because their body has worn down from age. It's something along the lines that a 60 year old person is 10 times as likely to die in the next year than a 20 year old no matter the country or society or historical period (Except for places where they send 20 year olds to fight in wars). This relation hasn't changed significantly in any historical statistics. Also, if you look at old photographs of 60 year olds, they look about the same as 60 year olds today. They just died of sickness because they had poorer health care back then.
Also, just because a country has a mortality rate of, say, 35, doesn't mean that people aged 35 tend to die of age or sickness a lot, it's because that country has a high infant mortality rate, which brings down the numbers a lot.
my great grandpa is 115 last june. He's the saddest person on the face of the earth. He now is getting delusional, and thinks he's living in the 20's again.
EDIT: come to think of it he was only 114.
MmMmMmmMM a high infant mortality rate...
What country was this?
