I need help, i want to create this kind of gate that you can see another part of the level through a gate in the middle of a room, but if oyu walk and look behind the door there is nothing! I have seen this done a few times in many games actualy. It's called level loop or something, makes two areas seem to connect solidly to a player but if you look in the map editor it is far from eachother.

any help?

You're thinking of portals. I don't think Source supports them - I've certainly never seen them used.

Well it could be done using a camera. Have one where the teleport/portal leads and pointing in the right direction. The have the teleport/portal surface use that camera's feed. Not the best explanation and it's probably done a bit different. Google ftw!

That's not really the same thing though - the image would be effectively static - a "real" portal allows you to see the geometry as if it was there, moving with the correct parallax etc.

I suppose you could do it with a sky texture and some cunning skyboxery, but that would affect any sky that the rest of the map has.

it is done, i was playing on a map in half-life 2 with it that i walked a loong tunnel and comes out on a nice plane and find out that the door is just connected to little box, still you can see inside and how long it is, its not an illusion, its real and physical. looks very strange, and looks 100% realy, there is no effects involved. It's also done in unreal tournament and jedi knight 2.

You're almost certainly thinking of a camera or a clever usage of 3D skyboxes. There is no other similar effect in Source.

Skyboxes is what I'd suggest... shouldnt be *too* hard
