Map Maker for hl2 deathmatch?

K a quick simple Q: what do I need to create maps for hl2 deathmatch to be used online? anyone got a link to the program? thx.

You need the source SDK and it's hammer application. However, mapping is an extremely complex and annoying process, so you may want to google for some tutorials. Also, in order to install the SDK you need a valid steam copy of Half Life 2.

The map-maker comes included with the game. You can download it by clicking on the Tools tab of your Steam window and selecting the "Source SDK" (SDK stands for Software Development Kit).

Heres the official Valve Developer Community Wiki - You will find info on everything you need here, but as I found when i started mapping, video tutorials are worth 2000 words.

The guy TheOneFreeMan linked is great, but his voice never fails to freak me out. Just search out Youtube for whatever aspect you need to learn - again there's nearly always something for everything.

Anyone know what the hell it means; setup file 'gameinfo.txt' doesn't exist in subdirectory 'c:\program files\valve\steam\steamapps\milkdrops0\half-life 2
episode two\ep2', check your -game parameter orVCONFIG setting.

???????

It means that something didn't install correctly, obviously.

May I say that if you show this level of frustration for a simple problem like this, then your mapping career is going to be very short-lived.

That error usually means you need to run the game first.

Just run the game your making a map for and then restart Source SDK. Look up 3kliksphilip on youtube. He has some good tutorials for beginners. In his tutorials he using counter strike source but most of the stuff you do works in hl2dm mapping.

I don't think thats the case. I'm pretty sure that error message means it can find your game configuration settings. So, you need to run the game and then restart hammer.
