Hello all,

Quick question for ya'll. Is it possible to merge changes into a map from two separate files?

For example, say mapper #1 is given MapCopy1 and mapper #2 is given MapCopy2. Both artists work on different areas of the map, changing geometry, lighting, textures, etc... Now once both mappers are finished, can they take their respective versions of the map and merge the two files into one updated map that reflects both mappers changes?

Not really that I know of. Easiest way is to use the selection tool to select everything within an area, deselect anything extraneous (e.g. skybox) and paste it into an empty space in one or other of the maps.

when you do that you should really only have one mapper working on it at a time and pass it around for accuracies sake

If you have the resources to host a 'concurrent versions system' server, I strongly suggest a CVS like RapidSVN.

Note: even if you use a system like this, you still need to make sure the mappers take it in turn to work on the map, submit the update and then pass on to the other mapper. Tbh the easiest way (more mapper independance, quicker compile speeds) is just to start with a blocky orangemap build and use that as the 'master' for all the proportions. Then have the mappers work at their own speed on different areas using the same proportions as the 'master', and add in their work when finished.
