missing disc one

so yeah my disc one is gone, and new system.

how the heck do i install and play withonu preloading the whole thing? is it possible to copy the disks across and preload just the first disk and if so how would i do that?

You just discovered the magic of steam.

Just remember your account name and password, and login to your account. And you can download HL2.

Or you could find a friend with the discs

but the point is i don't want to download the whole thing.

only the first disc if possible.

Might be able to find Disc1 somewhere to download, but not likely, because the warez HL2s floating around are of the non-Steam variety. A genuine HL2 disc is useless to a warez kiddie.

If you have a friend that has HL2, or your old system is still up, you can download and install Steam, then copy the GCF files to your new system (using network or CDs).
