since it's highly likely that I won't be involved with a mod, I thought I'd better just divulge an idea of mine so it won't bother me anymore.

It has to do with jumping. It would also be beneficial if your mouse was a scroll and tilt mouse. Allow me to explain.

The mod is in thirdperson. In front of the character is a red target, which can be moved forward and backwards with the scroll and left and right with the tilt. When the player has moved his target where he wants, he presses spacebar, and the character jumps there.

Wow.

Here's the attractive part of it: The target can go up walls, and the player can jump against a wall, then jump off the wall. The target can go basically anywhere, including behind the character to make him do back flips. If allowed, the player can make enormous leaps that clear buildings, or make a series of smaller acrobatic flips, dashes, and dodges, attacking all the while. This is how I would emulate the movement anime characters employ in battle-scenes.

I just realized I probably killed any chance of this appearing in a mod.

*sniff*

Why? With a bit of work this could be really useful. American McGee's Alice had something similar.

Can't help thinking that it'd be more useful in a third person mod, though.

Interesting idea, as for the implementation i'd suggest you'd replace the mousewheel with a joystick like thingy which would give you two control axes... if you still want to weaponswitch with a mousewheel you could place the wheel at the thumbs location of the mouse...

Send the layout to logitech, let them develop the ultimate mouse for gameing and start deveolping the mod then ;)

The problem is getting that mouse made
There are already scroll/tilt mice, if that's what you're talking about

Never heard of tilt mice. I don't think many people have them=your mod would be useless to most people.

I haven't played price of persian, but I've heard the controls are really good in that game(pc version).

I know my little finger feels useless when I'm using my mouse. I scroll wheel there would be just fine.

*Fused tries moving his little finger around while holding the mouse*
Nope, I don't think a wheel there would be very effective.

Wouldn't it be just as easy to move the target by moving your mouse rather than the scroll wheel? If you're also using the mouse to control the player's movements, maybe you can press a button and move the mouse at the same time to get the target moving...

I agree with synth, really the best way to do something like that is with the mouse, like jump mode button to toggle the mode, so then you can do that jump right then and there, its fast, simple and doesnt require custom peripherals.

That's an amzing system. It could really be very good, if implemented well. I'd also use a mouse for targetting, and I don't think it would affect the spontaneity in any important way.
