Before I jump into the sort of complex world of modding, could someone please let me know whether it would be doable in a relatively short time to realize these 2 little mods to Episode One:

- Add the RPG guide laser to more weapons, like smg, pulse rifle etc. Both the red glowing dot and the little red trail. I do not mean the actual guidance ofcourse.. just the aiming.

- In an odd way duplicate the HUD. I want to have all things shown duplicated and shifted off a normal screen. So x values would need to be negative or higher than 640. Is that possible?

Why on earth would I want this?

Atm I am playing Episode One in Stereo3D (say IMAX 3D style), and in principle you can play it with shutterglasses, red-cyan glasses or polarized. The thing is, the entire "world" gets rendered for your 2 eyes. And since the HUD and crosshairs etc are rendered at z-depth 0 or something, they split up dramatically and end up off screen. (as if reading a book with your head right on the pages)

I don't mind the normal crosshair gone, since it makes no sense in stereo3D and that is why I need the RPG like laser. Since it is true 3D and works like a charm. Second, the HUD is split up and I can't see it anymore, it sort of drifts like at x=-100 and x=740 or something. If the HUD would be duplicated and placed normally at say +300 and -300 pixels it would with some tweaking of the actual numbers be in 3d too!

I sure hope all this makes sense.. I am no modder, and if anyone could let me know if this is even possible I can figure out if I'll take the plunge.

ps: I am sure there are quite a bunch of stereo3D players interested if this can be made to work....

That sounds like a great idea.

Getting the lazer sight working should be as easy as creating an attachment point on the models and copy/pasting code from the rpg into the other weapons code.

Im confused what you mean about the HUD. Do you want it offset slightly or completely mirrored offscreen? I know the hud is tricky to edit (most people get stuck with changing the colour) but i dont see why you shouldnt be able to set the coordinates of the items.

Hmm creating an attachment point on the models etc.. doesn't make sense to me yet, but I will look into it. I am starting to be pretty ok with aiming without a crosshair but getting quick headshots in is quite problematic :)

The thing about the HUD:
What Nvidia's stereo3D driver actually does, is render 2 images for each eye, at the same time. Each of them with the digital "eye" shifted in space. Right now that means that my right eye image looks past the right side of the HUD, and the left eye looks past the left side of the HUD.
Imagine the HUD being drawn right in front of your nose. I can't see it! :)

Just changing coordinates of the HUD would make it possible to have at least 1 eye watching it. Either just push it more left or right. But that means having it beyond 640 pixels, or lower than 0 I guess. Both changing coordinates and duplicating it (and shifting that one too) would lead to a HUD per eye. If done right.

But you say HUD modding is difficult.. hmm

I understand how Stereo3D works (got a pair of glasses myself!) you just didnt make it too clear what you wanted to do.

Attachment points need to be put in the model, in the QC and in the objects Code.

In the model you would create a joint in the muzzle of the gun and name it "muzzle_attachment" or whatever is meaningful to you.

In the QC, you need to show that the joint is an attachment. The rocketlauncher does it like this:

$attachment 0 "muzzle" 0 0 0
$attachment "laser" "muzzle" -9.00 -5.00 0.50
$attachment "laser_end" "muzzle" 100.00 -5.00 0.50

Then with the code, i really havnt a clue. Sorry!
