Chalk it up to my nubliness, but how are dev teams doing renders and working on mods if the SDK hasn't been released? I see these mods being worked on months in advance and I was wondering what they are using as far as an engine.

Modeling doesn't require an SDK ;)

They're essentially working on models, sounds, and textures.

I think Valve gave the sdk to all of the major mod groups. Maybe the smaller ones don't have it yet, but they are working on the models and whatnot.

EDIT: dang. Someone beat me to it. :upstare:

So that being the case, then when they have the SDK in hand its possible that game "could" look nothing like the renders we are seeing correct?

edit: rather I should say that anything done prior to SDK is what they hope to have in the game. So renders are basically a visual concept of what the game may will look like?

Yes the sdk will be free and come out after the game is released. The models you are seeing could change indeed, but logically speaking they would likely be better if anything. The sdk was released early to a select few major mods such as cs, dod, maybe ns... By the way this should prolly haven been posted in the general editing forum

really? i wasnt aware that valve did that?

they did give out the program they use to make models, which is why lots of mod groups are makling the models, but the sdk is not out yet.
