Monster & weapon names

my box didn't come with any glossary of weapons or monstors... It'd be nice to know what to call the various mutations of crab heads or what the secondary fire of the pulse riffle is...

I didn't see a search engine for the content of the site (only the FAQ) - so hope this hasn't been answered a thousand times!

the game didnt come with a manual :) look on the main page of this site and use the nav on the left hand side.
 
Do you mean the console names that are used to create them or what they are called in general, because you wouldn't normally find any console commands in the manual anyways.

If you want just the general list, I could probably shoot a few off the top of my head(may contain spoilers):

Zombies:

Normal: The standard sluggish, slow hitting ones.
"npc_zombie" in console.

Fast: They run super fast and can jump FAR to get to you.
npc_fastzombie" in console.

Poison/Black: Much like the normal ones, but come with a couple Poison headcrabs hitching a ride on it which it will use to throw at you. It is also MUCH tougher than the normal one.
"npc_poisonzombie" in console.

Headcrabs:

Normal: You know, it screaches, jumps, and dies to anything.
"npc_headcrab" in console.

Fast: Just like the normal, but is much faster and can jump farther.
"npc_headcrab_fast" in console.

Poison/Black: A little tougher than the others, and its attack can drop you to 1 HP(which you regenerate back automatically over time).
"npc_headcrab_black" in console.

Humanoids:

Combine City police: Mostly found carrying pistols/smg's, die very easily.

Combine Soldier: Tougher than their city counterpart, found usually wielding a Shotgun, Plasma Rifle, or SMG.
"npc_combine_s" in console.

Combine Elite: Tougher to kill then the soldier and is dressed in white(looks just like a storm trooper). Usually has a Plasma Rifle and sometimes uses its secondary fire.

Mechanical/unique:

Manhack: Those super pesky flying saw blades.

Combine APC: The Black jeep you find every now and then, usually fired a bunch of missiles at range then switches to its machine gun when you get closer.

Strider: Found later in the game, it's big, tough, and hurts. It has a high powered gattling gun, but it's very inaccurate(about 3/8 actually hit its intended target); and some sort of dimensional rift gun thingy, it only fires this if commanded to do so.

Gunship: Rather durable aircraft with a machine gun that can let out lots of hurt. It also has some sort of beam that it can fire on targets below it, but it rarely uses it.

Dropship: Pretty much unarmed unless its cargo bay has a crate with a machine gun attached; wherever you see this, expect a bunch of soldiers.

Helicopter: This has a machine gun and bomb bay, but usually doesn't use them unless scripted to do so.

Other:

Barnacle: it grabs you, drags you up, and tries to chomp your head. One crowbar hit kills it, so letting it grab you is probably easier than using 6-7 pistol rounds.

Scanner: Those annoying things that float around and blind you with their cameras. Just take them out with the crowbar.

Antlions: Very annoying and ver dangerous in large numbers. Only attack in melee but can fly to get infront of you.

Antlion Guard: Massive Antlion, very tough and attacks primarily with a charge that will send you up and back a bit.

Weaponry:

Crowbar: The classic, you know what it does. No secondary.
"weapon_crowbar" in console.

Pistol: Usual pistol, low damage, but found everywhere. No official secondary, but there is a bug related to it.
"weapon_pistol" in console.

Magnum: Low ammo, but high damage, great for headshots and killing zombies at range. No secondary.
"weapon_357" in console.

SMG: High rate of fire, good damage, but can't hit jack at long range. Secondary launches a grenade that detonates on impact.
"weapon_smg1" in console.

Plasma Rifle: Low ammo, but high damage and decent long range accuracy. Secondary launches an energy ball that will disintegrate any normal target(human sized) in one hit and can ricochet to hit other targets.
"weapon_ar2" in console.

Shotgun: Usual monster at point blank, crap at range. Primary is one shell, secondary fires two.
"weapon_shotgun" in console.

Grenade: Usual grenade, has a bright red trail so you can easily spot it and takes longer than it should to detonate after being thrown. Secondary rolls the grenade for close targets.

RPG: A rocket launcher that is guided by a laser sight, the rocket will almost always hit whatever the laser is pointed at, so be careful. No secondary.
"weapon_rpg" in console.

Crossbow: Primary sniping weapon, slow projectile, but is a 1 hit kill on almost anything. Secondary is the scope.
"weapon_crossbow" in console.

Gravgun/Physcannon/Manipulator/whatever: Picks stuff up with the secondary and shoots them away with the primary. The gun itself does nothing to players, but the items you pick up with it can be deadly.
"weapon_physcannon" in console.
