You see two kinds of headcrabs in HL2 other than the normal headcrab. The one with long legs, and the black poison headcrab.
Question is, where in the hell those headcrabs come from? The normal headcrabs come from Gonarch, which it produces a baby headcrab and later grow into a headcrab we see like Lamaar. But looks like those two other headcrabs are matured (since it looks much bigger), and maybe they are mutated by the combines to use as a biological weapon? I don't think they somehow evolved into those by nature.

Maybe you just dont get to see them in HL1 because Valve didnt thought of it yet :P

I made a naff freewebs about HL animals when I was bored, never finished it but it puts across my thoughts about Headcrabs, maybe i'll finish it one day ;). http://www.freewebs.com/jandor

I had that bookmarked, thanks.

And the "Freinoplu" as you call it or "Mr. Friendly" as the designers called it was supposed to bang the ground so hard with it's tentacle arms, weapons and Gordon's glasses would come off. Where you would become the vulnerable to Mr. Friendly's attempt at "fatal copulation". :upstare:

Yes because it is imposible for 3 types of one thing to exist naturaly.
Edit: Those damn sarcasm tags aren't sarcasm at all, they're disclaimer tags! :frown: :frown: :frown:

That page is just speculation. It may very well be right but I am keeping my belief that the 2 new headcrabs evolved naturaly.

I think the fast/poison headcrabs, antlions, etc. are just from different sections of Xen than the ones that got hit by the dimensional rift in HL1. Think about it, if you're an alien visiting Earth, but only stay within the borders of a single country, you'll never see the planet's whole range of fauna, will you?

Did the Genome or whatever it's called only apear in OP4 or was it in HL. If the first then it can be disgarded from the records. I also think that Gonarchs are specialy made, like a queen bee.
Also I checked this out.
GON means reproducing
ARCH means leader
Makes sense. Unless it's the other defenition
GON is a figure having a specified kind or number of angles
ARCH is a curve.
so a gonarch is a reproducing leader or a curve with a specified kind of angle. I think it's the first one, just a hunch.

I read in raising the bar that the valve was working on a poison headcrab for hl1, however it did not make it into the final product. When they made hl2 the brought the poison headcrab back and finished it for hl2.

I know this does not explain where the fast and poison headcrab came from, but at least it show that valve was going to put a poison hgeadcrab in hl1.

How come very few people accept OP4 and BS as canon? I'm sure I read somewhere that a guy from Valve said they where canon but would not affect the future storyline. sortof, there now everyone is happy.

Correct, the Gonomes only appeared in OP4. However, like Jandor I see no reason why people don't think it's canon.

And isn't HL2's Barney the same as Blue Shift's Barney? If so that means that the expacks do affect future storylines.

an explanation for no Gonomes in Ravenholm is simply there are to many Zombies and not enough food, therefore they cannot grow to the next stage of maturity.
However I believe it was actually Mark Laidlaw (correct me if im wrong) who said, something along the lines of OP4 and BS can be accepted as canon however the elements from these packs does not affect the overarching storyline (Black Mesa, Combie, HL3) and so may or may not re-appear.

However I would have liked to have seen Gonomes and Gonarchs in HL2. They could have easily gone into Ravenholm, the Gonarch could have been a mini-boss.

All the security guards (except Otis) were Barney. It could have been any of them. One says to you "When I get off duty I'll buy you a beer" In HL2 Barney says "Now about that beer I owed you. So it's that one, not the one from BS. (They're like the Nurse Jennys from Pokemon)

When you kill the Gonarch in HL, you presume that's the only one. Plus after the Nihilanth is killed, there is no way for another Gonarch's headcrabs to come to Earth. So the Combine probably captured another Gonarch and breed headcrabs and mutate them into Black and Fast headcrabs.

Yes, but Blue Shift's Bareny is the only one who's escape was confirmed.

Even if Otis did escape you'll never see him again sadly. :( He's all property of Gearbox. I miss he's witty one liners.

"I'd like to hang that above my fireplace, you know, if I had one"

" Mmmm... Candy"

"Do these machines ever work?"

R.I.P.
Otis
Died: Killed in action at the Black Mesa Research Facility.

I'm going to buy his family the biggest fireplace in the world. ;(

Yeah, poor guy I guess a security guard wouldn't get very high wages so he can't afford a fireplace. :(

Normal security guards dont get high wages, but Black Mesa Guards. I bet he bought himself a modern trendy flat, but it didn't have a fireplace. it had one of those stupid fancy underfloor heating things.

Its all speculation ;)

BS barney was the only barney who's name was infact confirmed to be barney calhoun. All the other barneys were just barneys becasue that's what the model they used was.
