Anyways, I think guinny has the most powerful computer here, he said he'll upgrade to an AMD Athlon 64 FX-55 as soon as it's out.

You wann hear the best:
I gave my parents and old system with
p2 450
384mb ram
radeon 7000 graphics card (64 mb's)
wd 60gig hard drive
dvd rom (dont remeber read speed)
cd-rw drive (dont remeber burn speed)
And its the exact same IBM tower orcone has

Right now I got a much better rig though. I could run almost anything I wanted on that old pentium 2 untill about a year or two ago. I knew it was getting old when I couldnt run unreal tournament 2003 on it. But it still ran warcraft 3, counterstrike, age of mythology and some other games. Besides I was too busy playing my xbox to bother with my pc for a while. No sense in upgrading every 6-12 months like every single person on these forums seems to.

We should have like a PC ranking graph or something as a sticky in the tech section, that'd be nice statistic to see.

I presume my PC would be more toward teh m1d|24ng3, I HATE BEING AVERAGE I NEED UPGRADES!

heh

mines not too bad, i get 10fps in doom3 with everything turned down/off. lol, all other games work OK. i just played the tribes venegance demo on medium settings. it looked pretty damn good.

You seem to have the same philosophy I have. I was on a p2 400 mhz machine until about 2 months ago. I finally upgraded to an athlon 64 3200+ and I'm prolly going to try to squeeze a good 5 years out of it.

Thanks to already mentioned things, I am now using:

P2 266
256MB Ram
32MB TNT2 Video Card
2.1GB HD
5 GB Slave HD
40X cd-drive
Crappy generic case

I was using:

AMD 64 3000+ oc'ed to 2.4GHz
x800Pro oc'ed and unlocked to 16 pipes and 560/570
1GB OCZ Ram
120GB Sata Hard Drive
Dvd-Rom
CD-RW

1.5 ghz CPU (AMD)
512MB RAM
GeForce4 MX440
40GB Hardrive
DVD ROM
CD RW

Yeah, that's me. I keep meaning to upgrade, but in the end I just can't justify spending more than 100 US$ on upgrades for a computer :(

That's because guinny's parents are seriously wealthy.

Just priced up a new PC for my dad since he blew up his old one...

2.0ghz celeron, asus mobo (ddr333/lan/5.1sound), 40gb HDD, 512mbDDRpc2700 ram, case, PSU, wireless NIC, CD + floppy

£184

The PC is far from a monster machine but all my dad does is surf 'teh web' and generally screw the machine up in weird and wonderful ways.

same here, my dad just got a new comp cause he blew up his old one. what pisses me off the most though, is that he got the EXACT same parts I had asked him for (except vid card) a month earlier in his new computer. The only hitch is that he got a Radeon 9000Pro

haha, i still laugh about the 9000pro

hahahahahhahahaha, thats great

Actually I was gonna wait for the FX-57....the fx-55 wont be a big enough performance increase to spend that kinda money on. At that point i also plan on a new mobo and video card, depending wheter or not pci-x is making dramatic improvements over agp. And maybe new ram. Case, psu, drives, soundcard, speakers, monitor, mouse, and keyboard are all remaining the same. Just cpu, vid card, and mobo. MAYBE ram, depends whats going on in that department when the fx-57 comes around.

:naughty: You must get paid good.

Waiter 4 nights a week at a very popular steakhouse in my town. I walk out with 200-300 a night. I help support my family, I buy everything on my own (mostly), and I pay bills for what I use (car insurance, car payments, computer parts, etc) Im so sick of hearing jealous idiots like darkstar think the only way to have anything in life is to have rich parents.

You can't make the kind of upgrades you're talking about unless you rake in some serious dough.

At this point, you're talking about upgrading your awesome FX-53, your crazy MOBO, AND your freakin' X800 XT PE which are all top of the line. Most kids who pay for their own computers wouldn't even be thinking about upgrading for at least a year and a half with the kind of setup you have. It's just not possible unless you make really serious money where you work. Are you a CEO of a major corporation?

If you're actually paying for all this stuff yourself, more power to ya. But there's nothing wrong with having your parents help you out. Please don't get so defensive and please don't call me names.
