...........believe it or not, they were EXCEEDED!

I came into Half Life 2 anxious to play, but a bit worried about how well the game would run on the highest details on 1024x768, about whether it would turn into another DOOM 3 repetitive-remake, but instead, I was VERY wrong.

This game not only runs superb for its graphics - and you guys probably already agree with that - but the gameplay is just SO addicting man!

I've never been this engrossed with a FPS, and ever since DOOM 3 let me down, ive been a bit skeptical about them, but this one just takes the cake.

Half Life 2 is hands down, THE BEST FPS game in the history of gaming. This one has it all - sweet, sweet graphics, one of the best physics systems, brilliant AI, awesome scripted-scenes, it's just all there, and it all works out so perfectly!

Sure, here and there you'll encounter an error or two, causing the game to crash, but that still doesn't change the fact that this game is THE BEST OF THE BEST and deserves a 10/10 rating hands down.

Great job Valve and Gabe Newell - even though trying to get through STEAM was hell, the wait was worth it.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Hmm...mine weren't very high and I was a bit disapointed.

Disappointed?

I've noticed that most of the disappointments come from the graphics (which dont seem bad at all to me) and the flow of the gameplay (fight, script, phsyics puzzle, repeat - which also doesnt bother me), so I can see why some people can be disappointed....

Still, though, I think this game is a must-have for anybody who plays PC games - it's definetely the highest of its calibur, as it blows FarCry out of the water, and DOOM 3........nah, not even a comparison.

I have no problem with the graphics. They're quite nice.

But I just don't like it all that much really. I was expecting a game with an in depth story and good NPC development and interaction. Instead, I got to stop my vehicle (airboat/buggy) 20 times to open a damn gate. It got old really fast. I enjoyed the beginning and all the scenes with the main characters, but I find the actually game play to be pretty boring. It's just HL1 on steroids really. I thought they'd do something new.

You also have to understand what type of games I play. (Think Thief III) I love games to have deep and interesting stories. I usually get bored of just plain "shoot 'em up" FPS's. But so far that's what HL2 seems like. Sure there's a story kind of thrown in, but it just seems to be a facade to hide the actual game play devices of opening gates, turning valves, and jumping on platforms. Not my cup of tea really.

However, I'm not quite done with it yet, so it might pick up here. But I'm rather doubting it.

From what I've seen so far, I'd have to say I enjoyed both those games more. Not quite so much Farcry, but definitely Doom 3.

I totaly agree its superb you get emerged in the game like no other and its just fantastic im taking my time playing as ive waited too long to finish it quickly.

There is a deep and interesting story, it's just not mentioned in the game. :p

Of course, remember that Gordon's not supposed to have any idea what's going on. I think Gabe Newell said something about this at some point, how the characters all sort of expect you to know what's happening. It's interesting, but a bit more exposition would be appropriate, IMHO.

I can understand how those who like a deep well written story could be a little dissapointed, but to me story comes second, action comes first. An this is why i'm loving this game. I'm upto nova prospekt now, and my god...its freaking awesome. My expectations were also exceeded.

you can figure out the story by looking at the posters and graffiti, really your surroundings learn you so mutch about the story and what happened. You should spend more time looking around when you have the chance.

Agreed. You absolutely have to be paying attention - there's a lot of very subtle stuff going on. Also, in the beginning, be sure to talk to everyone at the train station and whatnot.

Go and play it. It's pretty long, and by now will seem really old, but it's still awesome. :D

Yes, because Doom 3 was the pinnacle of variation. My god, the sheer quantity of gameplay types that game offered still astound me.

Yeah, for REAL.

It offered a game mode that let you slay demons.........a game mode that let you shoot demons.........a game mode that let you destroy demons.........oh yeah, and a gamemode that let you......uh.......HURT DEMONS! :naughty:

I think this needs to be put in spoiler tag .. just to be safe, not much in it though.
at first the game has so much in depth story .. but after that you get about 2 to 3 hours of "dry" shoot em'up style play, pretty much hl1 action, but there are new stuff like the boat and all. the usage of physics in puzzles adds a cool twist to the feeling .. anyway.
through out this 2 hour of dry play .. you get to meet people and all, but it still feels dry.
ocne you get past the water hazard you get more story and characters .. believe me it's great.
then you go into the zombie place .. revenholme .. omg the horror!!!1
I'm at the beginning of ravenholme
so I'd say you just keep playing .. the story will hopefuly get more involved as you advance.
