My new AR-15 type rifle (my precision AR).

Sometimes it's not for protection...some people just like shooting guns.

Christ. I can understand the desire to own a pistol to protect yourself / your home, but why on earth do you 'need' a rifle? Unless of course you're in the army in which case playing with rifles is your job...
He doesn't need it, just like you don't need a computer, or a lot of things that I could list, but won't.

Although this rifle is not a good example, rifles are much better for self defense in the home as opposed to pistols. Pistols are not nearly as effective and have much much less knock down power. I have a concealed carry permit so when I'm not at home or school I carry an HK P7 in a IWB (inside the waistband holster) somewhere between 4 and 5 o'clock behind my hip. At night though the pistol goes back in my safe and either my Saiga 12 shotgun or M4 is close by. I will probably never need any of these, but it doesn't hurt to be prepared. Oh yea I finally got some 8rd mags for my converted Saiga 12. You gotta check out this shottie. I'll post a pic in a min. BTW all my guns are secured in a thick steel gun vault/safe that is bolted to the concrete foundation in my house (it's not a real big one but it weighs probably 350-400lbs). I take gun safety very seriously so please don't flame me for keeping some out at night or what not for defense.

Here's my shottie:

I say it is a converted Saiga because when they were imported to the states they had to be like this:

Once converted it falls into the assault weapon category and must not contain over a certain amount of foreign parts. Basically the fire control group (3 trigger parts), pistol grip, and buttstock had to be US made parts to be legal because it would classify it as a US made assault weapon rather than an imported one (imported AW's were banned in 89). The trigger group and trigger guard are moved forward and a few holes have to be made with a dremel. Luckily I have a friend that is good at this stuff so he did it all for me for free.

There is no longer a importer for Saiga's because Remington bought EAA the importer and wants nothing to do with them. I bought mine for $200 which was common about 6 months ago but now a nonconverted one gets $450 and a converted one as much as $700 so it was a pretty good deal.

Is that a Napoleon Dynamite impression I detect?
No. That only...no. That only works if you SAY it. No. Stupid. No.

guns are good at killing people

Your right. Sometimes killing is a neccesary evil. I'd rather kill someone who breaks in my house than be killed myself or my wife raped etc... There is a time when killing is necessary. A gun is only a tool though. Tools can be great in the right hands or horrible in the wrong hands. I'd rather guns be allowed in the right hands because they will ALWAYS be in the wrong ones. I know there is law enforcement but alot can happen in 5 min before they arrive if there is even enough time to contact them at all.

I want to buy a Jackhammer, but any type of firearm is illegal here
