New Alan Wake Media!

From the developers at Remedy comes an interesting psychological thriller for the Xbox 360 and PC known as Alan Wake.
Awesome.
This game, created by some of the same minds who worked on the Max Payne series
Awesome.
,
will feature a free-roaming, open environment for the gamer to explore.
Awesome.
Alan is a bestselling horror writer who writes a novel about his darkest nightmares. Unfortunately for him, his nightmares come to life
Awesome.
Planned for release in June of this year
Awesome.
Alan Wake will hopefully be a great game due to its cutting edge visual styles and intense story.
Awesome.

With the the main character (you) being a bestselling writer, this game should have a 'killer' story.

I've been watching this game.

Looks awesome. Look how complicated that tree behind him is. I love twisted trees.

The character looks pretty cool. I like how the town here looks like one of those small towns in Stephen King movies.

It can't be out for the PC this June because Vista doesn't come out till next year.

as always, one of my most anticipated games of 2006
june? i doubt it

I'm wondering what kind of nightmares he is having that come to life.

That he's excited waiting for a game but it turns out it only runs on an operating system he doesn't have?

June D:
no way, its Vista Exclusive Game
and if its released on the 360 this june, ill kill myself

Wait, wait, Vista exclusive? God damn it Microsoft, must you ruin EVERYTHING? If it's released on Xbox 360 in June everyone with a 360 will be saying "lol, Alan Wake ftw, let's talk about how great his nightmares are!" and everyone else will bang thier head on their keyboard until next year, at which point they will go without eating for a month to pay for a new operating system to finally play it, then make a thread called "lol, Alan Wake" and get no replies because nobody cares anymore.

(3.2) Is Alan Wake exlusive to Windows Vista? If so why?

Petri Järvilehto had this to say on the official Alan Wake forums (18/05/06):

"I'll confirm that Alan Wake is Vista and 360 exclusive. I know some people
have reacted strongly to that, but for us this was one of the key decisions
that will allow us to create the best possible game.

We've locked this down a while ago, and being able to focus on fewer
platforms means that the game is going to kick more ass than ever before.
By going with Vista, we don't have to compromise everything to the lowest
common PC denominator and since we're not doing a PS3 version we can go all
out with PC and 360 multithreading, HDR rendering etc. This focus benefits
the tech and game design immensely.

We're really sorry if some end up missing the game because of our platform
choice, but in the end of the day we *must* base our decisions on what will
let us create the best possible game. That's just how Remedy as a team
works: we're passionate about creating something unique. Alan Wake is still
our IP and we drive the creative control, but working with Microsoft gives
us unprecedented levels of development support, testing resources and so on.

But... as they say, the proof is in the pudding. You guys are going to be
the best judges on whether the calls we've made have been the right ones.
We haven't really shown anything on what we've been up to in the past year.
Once we do, it'll be up to you to see whether our work has been worthwhile."

That sounds like such BS. I'll bet they didn't cut out XP support because it would make the game better, they're making it Vista exclusive because that's what MS wants.

I dont mind it being Windows Vista. Why? Because Vista is shaping up to be great and i will be picking it up 100%.

I'll be getting Vista as well. But I don't appreciate having to wait until next year to play this game and more importantly I think it's just it's crap that they say it will 'compromise' their quality by making it playable on Windows XP. Look at Crysis, afaik that's coming out for XP and they haven't made any compromises, that game is all out graphical insanity.

Yeah right, June. That's not going to happen. No company is going to forego showing off one of the most popular titles in gamers' minds at E3 only to release--on any platform--a month later.

That said, I don't care when it comes out. It looks great and the idea of a playable Twin Peaks is music to my ears!

I wonder how they found out June when EVERY SINGLE OTHER GAMING SITE has been told that it's not decided yet.:p
Did the lead dev state it in an interview?

Why would it come out in june when Vista is still miles away?

Since MS is publishing it, I would NOT be surprised if MS gave'em some form of bonus if they could get a 360 vers out this year.:)
I mean, I've heard a few times the dev state that it'd be coming out this year, I wouldn't be surprised if they just have to 'delay' the PC vers because of the 'switch' to Vista but can still release the 360 vers this year.
Here's hoping they can get the 360 vers out this summer though, although I doubt it, but it'd still be nice.:)

I just hope it doesn't turn into another GRAW where the 360 version releases months ahead of the PC version and the the PC version finally drops and is lackluster at best....

I sorta doubt it, afterall GRAW PC was developed by GRIN, a studio totally independent from Ubisoft and the original creators off GRAW on the 360.
Whereas Alan Wake is being developed for both platforms by the same team.:)

Vista exclusive means it uses DX10 i think ( i read it somewhere ), as M$ said, they will not release DX10 on XP cuz it need heavy reprograming blah blah blah.
