Yummy...

I smell..... LIEZ!

Black will never look that good on the PS2. EVER. Expect as many jaggies as a rolling stones world tour.

Well, you're probably wrong. There are already games that easily compete with those graphics on PS2, such as RE4 and Shadow of the Collosus. Burnout Revenge, developed by the same studio, had fairly impressive graphics and a very similar style. This just looks like the next logical step for the company graphics wise.

Framerates in Collosus are mediocre at best (like 20-25fps dipping below 20 often) though and RE4 and Burnout don't have the same amount of detail as this does with so much going on at once.

I haven't seen THIS much action in RE4 going on at once. In Burnout there's lots of sparks, wreckage and whatnot but the rest of the world and vehicles aren't as detailed as everything in this game.

Plus... RE4 has less polys than the Gamecube version and is toned down graphically.

I can see this getting bad framerates.

That's sad but true. :(

the first picture - the environment looks almost real.

other than that it looks pretty bad by my standards. But looks aren't everything .. i guess :p

I tend to think that if IGN is posting the shots, then they are what they are. I am just pretty impressed that visuals like this are possible on any current gen system. The only people that truly "need" the next-gen so soon are Microsoft because its the only way they can hope to grab some of Sony's marketshare. Technologically speaking, we shouldn't need a next-gen for a while yet, given that only the best developers out there have been able to really push the current gen machines toward their limits recently. Pity....

Yes the graphics are high quality for PS2. PS2 always had good graphics, but the difference is that xbox360 graphics capability has never been seen before.

i have seen some visuals from Team Ninja and others that are mind-blowing and hard to believe that they are done on nothing short of special NASA type PC's that hollywood movies use.

current gen systems aren't dead yet though- not by a long shot... There are a lot of people just now moving up to the PS2's, gamecubes and xbox1's.

the best games for a system usually come out after they have lost attention.

I remember Perfect dark was released long after i had sold my N64 and been playing dreamcast and PS2 even.

Games like HL2 for xbox, soul caliber 3 & RE4 have just come out for PS2. There's probably many other great games that have been released recently or will be released that don't get the attention they deserve. yes, that is a pity, but the past 2 years have been bleak IMHO. I haven't had any fun on my PS2 since Red Faction 2, FFX ,Max Payne 1, and Everquest.

Games like Black don't look like they are anything special. just another "me too" type game with similar graphics to games like SOCOM 1 even. The graphics and sounds? probably decent, I bet the gameplay is decent too, but I say, "too little too late"

varios good games hav come this year like

god of war
tekken 5
shadow of the collosus

Ok i guess my main point is that hardware and software technology will continue to advance ready or not. (im ready!)

Black appears to be new software technology on the older PS2 hardware technology.

Anyway, im saying just becuase the new systems are here or coming, doesn't mean you have to "Jump In" - Microsoft

You can still play PS2 if thats what you like.

My oldest brother still plays Dragon's Lair, Tron, space invaders, Defender, and things like that. Warbie still plays SNES & N64 ;)

goddamn... i'm impressed, it's nice to finally see a slew of games that can actually take advantage of the PS2, hopefully this has a good framerate, but really, i'll play it no matter what

I saw a video out for this game, and suprisingly, it ran flawlessly on the PS2. I was shocked like hell. Can't remember where I found that though.

lol. Well lets not get carried away.

If thats the best that PS2 can do (last push from PS2 camp) , here is the worst the Xbox 360 can do (new system woes)

Personally, Black seems to do a better job of getting things shot and blowed up than any of the X360 games that have been shown, so, even though it may not be the most impressive looking game coming out, it looks like it will be one of the most fun ones coming out, especially if you've watched the videos - shit gets blowed up real good :D

Suffice to say, it looks awesome for current gen. Don't turn this into a PS2-bash. You simply can't compare this gen with next gen. That would be idiotic. :rolling:

If that level's as open/freeform as it looks...then that'll be aweshens.

I guess they look okay. They look good considering the system though. I don't like the fuzzy look for the background textures. And what is with the cone of light from the guy on the bottom of the second picture? Is that a mounted flashlight? It just looks off.

Aleviation was saying it looked like 360, so I just reminded him what 360 looks like. I just was just waking him up. And to me it doesn't look any better than the games they have been coming out with since day 1, except for the light coming through the trees in the first picture. It's not a bash so to speak, im just saying it looks pretty bad IMHO. The guns and characters look to be missing a lot of color, detail, resolution, and pollygons.

only the 4th one down looks ingame, but i can't wait to buy this.

I am well aware the graphics in those screens don't even come close to the 360. But, we must admit those graphics are pretty good for PS2. I was just taking pokes at it.

Yep, the same day as the PS2 version.
seriously ?

.. any word on a graphics/performances difference between xbox/ps2 ?

Ok i just watched the video for it to see what everyone was talking about.

Looks awesome, but the video is an advertisement for the Xbox and PS2 game. They could be showing it running on a PC or it could be the Xbox version. I am 100% certain they will show you the best possible version of the game in a video like that. For xbox that looks sick.

Either way thats interesting how they make you walk really slow (so you can't go far LOL), and make the entire scenario centered around 1 small building. That way they have TONS of resources left. Memory that is normally used to make large levels in most games is instead used to store more impressive special effects.

Cross your fingers they can turn out a game worth buying

If you trust Gamespot, yes.

I kind of like the slower, deliberate pace. Have you ever tried running around with a weapon and a full thing of gear? You get tired pretty quickly, and this really makes the player find cover, which is fine.
Also, did you see the city level? That city was pretty expansive, with plenty of buildings featuring multiple floors, not to mention the cars and debris strewn about. And the destructibility of the environments is pretty incredible. I haven;t seen any current gen console game pull stuff off this well and make such an insane environment.

ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMJ

I think I might actually buy this game, and it's a very rare occurence for me to buy games at all (not that I get them by other methods...I just don't play many games these days) especially on PS2.

New gameplay video, the guy sucks though.
He mentions a playable demo at January 17'th next year.

This video is great. I love this game. taking down an enemy with the handgun looks like alot of fun.

Damn you can really chuck a grenade far and accurately :) :)

This looks like the Xbox or PS2 game to get in 1st quarter 2006

Yeah, this game looks pretty awesome! Explosions and carnage everywhere. If this game looks this good on the PS2/Xbox, imagine what they'd be able to do with the next gen hardware.

EDIT - After watching the live game demo, it doesn't look as good as the other videos. I think they were adding in some anti-aliasing in the previous vids. I guess I'm spoiled by my PC and the 360.

I do hope it's harder than it looks. As far as I can see you can just run around in the open spraying bullets like some kind of short recoil/garden hose hybrid, prancing about as bullets thwack ineffectually against your tough leather armoured hide. I'd rather it was like, enemies die really easily but so you do, and your foes are smarter than the average bear. Meaning you'd actually have to use cover to your advantage. Tactics! Fabulous!
