Finally the days of the rush-helping spy are upon us.

Strike at will!

clarifying:

sit cloaked on enemy dispenser.. wait till you see team mates then sap sap sap and try not to die.

I've been doing that for weeks.

...?
Then you've been playing against noob Engineers, until the very latest patch, i.e. this change
Valve said:
Fixed cloaked spies having a particle-beam effect while standing next to a dispenser that's healing them
smart Engineers would see you even while cloaked next to a dispenser.

I swear, I've been doing this since the last update and haven't been found once. I even messed with some engis, telling them I was standing on their dispensers on chat, and they couldn't figure out which one I was on.

I spotted someone doing this the other day whilst playing as engi.

Infact, the only reason i knew there was a spy was because there were 2 beams coming out of my dispenser.

Cue wrench flailing!

Better keep your eyes peel now Kaz, the new patch has removed those tell tale signs :)

Well seeing as I've had some magical invisblility that others do not, I'd like to say it can be very useful. I took out a double engi base through a little patience where otherwise I would've been screwed. It's also a pretty definite "safe zone" if you ever get low on health or people get spy paranoia.

Oooooh, i've just had a thought - can a spy stood on your dispenser stay cloaked indefinately? Because he will be getting metal from it?

Spy is such a difficult class to play as, it's easy to spot/kill most spies, but the pro guys backstab me before i know what's going on. I've a feeling the ability to extend cloak with ammo will enhance this for me!

You don't steal the Engie's metal though, only other Engies can do that, same with ammo, it doesn't change the metal-meter.
Metal pick-ups though, yes.

I take it the 'click clack' sound of drawing ammo from the dispenser isn't present as well? Most fun!

Thanks, that's what i wanted to know.

I only have 1 hr spy playtime, so i dont really know anything about spy!

Standing on the dispensers is great, but on a level 1 dispenser, cloak doesn't recharge but stays level. I love to mess with engineers just starting to set up by nicking all the ammo boxes.

Last I checked, you did end up gaining cloak time, but's such a small profit, it takes a while for it to look like you're getting anything.

It's bad enough when friendly players are doing that! e.g the demo that used one sticky bomb to do a jump picking up a 200 metal box

Huh, okay, I'll look out for that. Either way though, it's easier to wait for it to be upgraded to level 2 or 3 before making your move.

Is it just me, or has there been an increase of spies and a decrease of engineers because of this update?

I've noticed more and more servers limiting the amount of engis allowed. One thing i always do is randomly charge at my dispenser with my wrench, then i get called a hack.
