I just read about this from a finnish gaming site. It says that VU games has announced HL2's 18+ rating reduced to 15+. I searched for a english source but found none. On www.pegi.info (european ratings) it says HL2 is 15+/16+. The 18+ copies in stores won't be changed but when new copies arrive, the rating on them is 15+.

sorry if this has been posted already.

Valve most likely appealed against the original rating... I remember seeing the Euro Box-art on Amazon UK sporting an 18. The work-around in the UK was to submit it to the BBFC, who gave it a far more lenient 15 rating. I don't think you often see the little "15" Film classification sign on games here...

So now it's a 16 throughout Europe? I wonder what made PEGI change their mind?

Yeah, it's 15+ here in Finland but it looks like it's 16+ in most of the countries in Europe.

yeah in the UK it has a 15 rating by the BBFC. I think one rating should be used for all platforms. None of this "mature" malarkey

That's because we're the most uncorrupted country in the world, there is no need for us to worry that someone goes postal in the middle of schoolday.

Yes! I find this really strange... PEGI issues 15+ ratings in Finland, yet in the rest of europe that bracket is 16+

A search (http://www.pegi.info/searchgames.jsp) of Half-Life 2 reveals that the UK version is "?", because the BBFC now have the responsibility. I'm sure people on the streets trust the BBFC better than PEGI anyway :)

I have a UK 15 rated by BBFC

EDIT: didnt read the whole thing

I am offended as a person who was once younger (weren't we all?)when things are limted by age when they should be limited by maturity level.
