I have been playing WoW and EQ in total for about 7 years but recently got HF2. I cant get used to WASD/mouse combo for getting around so wondered if anyone is using a joystick and finding it good..if so can you point me to good ones ,

Thanks,

well if you want to play shooters you have to learn the wasd combo
everyone else did myself included so how about it
besides doesnt wow and eq use wasd? or at least the arrow keys

besides playing an fps with a joystick is a bit lame
and the shortened version of halflife 2 is hl2 not HighFive2

In wow and eq I depress the right/left mouse simulatiously to move aloows total range of motion. Thanks for the heads up,

If you are used to joystick crap you could pick up the Xbox 360 Controller for Windows.

But if you are going to be a PC shooter fan, you need to know the WASD+mouse thing. It's just crucial to a PC gamers existance.

it doesn't necessarily have to be WASD for movement, you could use the arrow keys or something. but there really is no other way to play PC shooters other than keyboard/mouse, just take the time to learn.

I use to use the arrow keys, then forced myself to get use to WASD. WASD just allows me to hit more keys at once. With the arrows I would always use shift as jump, ctrl as crouch,(use da pinky) 0(numpad) as use, and 1 and 4 as extra. Then maybe enter for rarer use keys.

WASD is sooo much better.

logitech

since no one answered your question, i will. I use logitech® Rumblepad™ 2 to play WoW and other games. I just got HL2 and have yet to set up the controller for it, but i'll let u know how it gose.

I also use a Z-Board to play most of the FPSs i have and i highly recommend it.

Yes, we did answer his question, oh great martyr of the forum.

And really, not using WASD for FPS gaming is just. Lame.

I know what you're saying bro [topic starter]. I used to be a console FPS gamer, and when I started getting into PC gaming, it took me a while to get used to it, but once you got it down, it really is infintely better.

You get all those extra key combos just right at your fingertips. You can assign the more important keys, like USE and Grenade keys, to keys closer to your fingers, like E R F Q Z X C V ALT, then for things less important in battle, like character interaction and engine specific things, you use the farther keys, like G T TAB Y H V B.

And really, the mouse is the best way to go for aiming. PC games were designed to be used WASD style, so the levels and AI have been sorta designed around how you interact with the mouse.

With a mouse, you can get accurate shots in quicker, without even having to think about it. Eventually you'll end up just flicking your wrist and clicking a couple times, and BAM, everybodies dead.

Don't waste money on a ZBoard. If you think about it, it's WORSE than a normal keyboard. The WASD keys are spaced from everything else, so you can't just bend your finger to J to pull out your rocket launcher. You gotta get your hand off the home spot, and then hit J, then go back, but oh noes, you're dead.

Not to mention the learning curve with normal typing could really get you. Not being able to quickly communicate with squaddies isn't good.

Just take the time to get used to it, I did, and I like it allot better (I can't go back to console FPS' now :P)

You are right...so sorry...i thought he was looking for a good controller to use for the game.

that's what i get for skimming :(

Bleh, don't be sorry.

No regrets

And...

Welcome to the Peoples Republic of HalfLife2.net!

It's safer here.

Seriously, if you're going to train your fingers to use the keyboard and mouse, learn on the default settings - they are the same for most all games and this'll minimize the amount of tweaking you have to do every time you load a new game. Also, you'll develop muscle memory pretty quick and I expect will never go back to your joystick for FPS games once you master the keyboard and mouse.
