It's strange the number of things gone missing in HL2, even though it's argubly the best action game ever.
Now that the source engine is done, many episodes can be inserted between the two periods of HL and HL2, explaining some of the mysteries and story holes, and using the creatures which were cut out from the game. (surely they're not just going to dump them away). It's probable that they'll make some addons for HL2 while they ready up the source engine for HL3.
My hopes is that they touch the following:
*The original purpose of the black-mesa experiment. ->1
*The aliens from opposing force. (species X, I recall?) Remeet them, understand them and take a look at their homeworld. (Shepy!)
*Alien spawnage. How long did it continue after the death of the wyrm in opposing force? and how many worlds were involved?
*Black ops. Understand their purpose, and who they worked for. (g-man, possibly?)
*More aliens, less combine.
*Much less semi-infinite enemy spawning.
And since I only completed the game once, and don't have raising the (crow)bar, I'll mention these possibly answered points seperately:
*Combine. Understand their purpose of invasion. (simple lust?)
*Antlions. Did they come from a different world as a result of the chaotic connections between the worlds?
*The allience between Vortigaunts and Humans.
*The combine's control over headcrabs. Did they own a mother headcrab to breed them? ->2
1: According to some hints, there were tests on the crystles from Xen, which allowed teleportation between the the two worlds. But then, how did the get their hands on the crystles the first place? It appears that they got a very pure sample, which they attempted to use to bring three headcrabs into the three glass tubes we saw at the beginning.
2: Appearantly, the combine have recently invented a way to open a temporary portal between worlds. That was probably due to the collision of the different worlds. Their researches on the distortion lead to the discovery of the new technology. The first world for them to invade was the source of distortion, Xen. They must of gotten control over a mommy headcrab then. Then, the second stage was the other world connected to Xen, which is Earth. It's either a simple connection between all worlds, or chain-like connection; each world is connected to two others, concluding that the combine came to earth through Xen, and that the second world connected to earth is the one from which the aliens of Opposing force come from. The antlions are possibly from the same world just mentioned, (they do look similar) but they weren't seen until the proper season came.
Knowing Valve, I'm positive they will not show any sign of mr. G before HL3.
