Oblivion = 93% in UK PC Gamer

No 360, no PC to handle it, no cash.

I have 3 options

1. Rob a bank
2. Work until I can afford an upgrade
3. Hang myself with ethernet cable

How much ethernet do you have?

I've just been playing Morrowind again and it's awesome. I've been looting peoples houses when they aren't looking and I've got about 13k gold. I didn't realise you could steal stuff when you're out of an NPC's view the first time I played it.

I'll buy Oblivion the day it's released.

The only dissappointing thing about Oblivion that it seems they didn't mention in the review(I've read it twice..:p) is the fact that one could say that it has been dumbed down partially in comparison to Morrowind..
For example.
No enchanting anymore, you have to join the mages guild and do a few quests til you unlock the ability to pay for enchanting.
No spears, throwing weapons and crossbows.
For some reason they've merged the short and longsword skills.. Yet again, dumbing down.
They've merged axe and blunt weapon skills.. Yet again, dumbing down.
No more unarmored or medium armor skills, only light armor and heavy armor.. Not sure what to think of this.

I'm assuming some of these things will be added/changed in official mods and/or expansion packs tho.

They were seen as useless in Morrowind. How do you know they merged short and longsword or axe and blunt? I don't remember reading that in the extremely long as hell FAQ on Oblivion I read.

And plus, I'm sure everyone can still exploit potions to their heart's intent.

How do I know?
Because it has been stated repeatedly, perhaps the FAQ was a bit outdated or hadn't been updated yet?
You'll see when you have the game in your hand anyway, I cba to look up a link for it now, but on the Oblivion gaming forum it's common knowledge.:)

And then as you become the head of the mages guild you no longer need to pay for it...

Yeah, this is what will suck about Oblivion.

No unarmoered skill... But i want to make a naked character, who specialises in Axes (which are sharp, not blunt :|)...

no throwing weapons?... them little throwing stars were cool. :(

Removing the armour classes sucks, stupid dumbing down for consolers. I dont want to wear armour, i hardly ever do in morrowind. :(

oldagerocker, thing is I don't realize why they do this..
Morrowind on the XB1 wasn't dumbed down at all, and it sold EXTREMELY well none the less..
Oh well.
Nothing's perfect.:D

Anyway.

Atleast the jump in removal of features isn't nearly as big as it was between Daggerfall and Morrowind.:)

They do it because theyre making the game for the xbox360, whereas something would work on the pc platform, they simplify things for the consoles...rather than making a better game on the pc and just porting it, they cater for the other audience of console joe blogs' idiots. :P

Yeah, but let's not blame that on the console itself, the fact that the XB1 vers that was a straight port sold incredibly well prooves that they could've easily avoided dumbing it down..
So instead of blaming the console audience or the console itself, blame Bethesda..
But as I said, some of these things have likely intentionally been removed so they can sell'em as addons later on.
Capitalism ftw <3

Thats a fair point, you can get they'll add combat on the horses later, i mean... they give them armour, surely if you're going to ride a horse around you can atleast fight on it...
Also, no spears... but I wouldnt mind in the arena a nice jousting tournament :D

What the hell, wearing Armour doesnt impede spell creation? thats terrible, they're taking away the basic principles and setups of all rpg's ever. :-/

They might aswell take out the class system completely... if you wanted to wear armour and cast spells, you be a battlemage, with this.. everyone's a battlemage anyway :-/

I disagree that complexity is necessarily a plus. Morrowind had many many many skills, but to be honest, at least 1/4 of them were useless. Plus I would guess it would be easier to balance out the game if there are fewer parameters. All the skills they took away, I never even used in morrowind (where still stuck at 5 when everything else was at 100.

It lists changes such as removals in the near end of the article.

Edit: http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=186541
I quote.

ENDURANCE
Block
Heavy Armor - Perk: no penalty for sneak, magic
Armorer - Perks: repair magic items; repair beyond 100%

STRENGTH
Blade (cover both short and long blades)
Hand2Hand
Blunt (also cover axes, may cover spears)

SPEED
Athletics

Those're all the skills categorized as Combat ones..

Hmm, wonder how I missed that. Thanks for clearing it up.

No problem, always glad to help a fellow Elder Scrolls fan.:p

I hope someone fixes it with the construction set. The old morrowind armour/class system was better. FAR better.

Well we can dodge now and blocking is manual. For some, armor won't even be an issue anymore. I know for me, I'm gonna be working on dodging and blocking.

dekstar, nope..
As I've stated in other threads, Bethesda has stated that one can not add new skills to the game via the Construction Set.

None of that applies to the Elder Scrolls series...
oh sorry, I thought it was EQII:Oblivion...but its not. excuse my ignorance.

That's lame. Dumbing down for consoles sucks horribly.

Bethesda have sold out.

Oh no, they merged axe a blunt weapon skills, ahhhh sellouts.

Who cares?

Whenever something changes, PC gamers are usually always the first to start whining that it's been dumbed down for the console community. A lot of their gameplay changes were done in an attempt to streamline the gameplay and keep gamers interested and focused. Bethesda hasn't "sold out". They have enough clout to call their own shots.

Don't spoil their fun ;) Bashing consoles gives em something to do.

Stop blaming consoles already. This isn't Deus Ex 2 goddammit :|.

Indeed. Early reviews have proved that this game kicks some serious ass on both the PC and Xbox 360 versions of the game. Besides, this latest generation of consoles are able to keep up with PCs so the only thing that's different is the way people choose to control the game. (keyboard/mouse or the 360 controller)

I wasn't expecting you to come out with that, but you do have a point

Bethesda hasn't sold out, period!

Seriously. Anyone who's man enough to buy the Fallout franchise and work on a sequel does not sell out.

Since I love Bethesda, I retract my statement. The game will rock, but usually I expect game sequels to become more complicated than simplistic.

Are you saying games that are more complicated are better than those that are simplistic? If that's what you claim then have you heard of Geometry Wars? That game is ridiculously simple but it's a freakin' blast to play.

Erm, Interplay managed to screw that license by selling out quite easily. Fallout:BOS was awful (and it was made for consoles) and Fallout:Tactics was very poor compared to Fallout 1 & 2.

crapah, the scan have been deleted of GameFAQs.

oh and that is one retarded forum
