I have a dilema (sp?) Either i buy Oblivion which i wanted since ever, or, Homm5 which i am a big fan of the serie. I tryed the demo for Homm5 and loved it, however, i have never played any demo or anything from Oblivion. I dont know which game i should buy...should i wait with oblivion till later when i get a better comp?

Dual Athlon 64bit 3800+
ATI Radeon X600
1 gig RAM

The Homm5 demo ran very smooth with highest settings (exept no Antilaising)

Hmm... I have Oblivion, and I LOVE it. Honestly, it's one of the best games I've ever played. But with your video card, you might not get the best performance on it... I dunno. I voted Obliv regardless.

Oblivion.
For Great Justice!
Besides the rare BF2 match, I haven't played any other game in the past month. :F

I personally would go for oblivion. But since you are a fan of the HoM&M series, I might buy it instead especially since it seems some people just loathe oblivion.

Oblivion... but then download Oldblivion, as your card definitely wouldn't be able to run the game straight out of the box.

They are VERY different games. Oblivion is a hack and slash fps, HOMM5 is an rpg/rts slow moving stat game.

Personally I'd wait for both of them to hit the bargain bins - neither are worth full price.

Oblivion by far, it owns Might and Magic in every conceivable way.

Lucid, you sure he'll need Oldblivion? It might be able to run ok without it.

I'd say Oblivion purely because, despite loving Heroes 1, 2, and 3 (Wtf was 4 about!?), I don't really see the point in 5 at all.

Yeah and how many of you have actually played Heroes IV...

Well I've played both. I also don't know why people are comparing the two, they are completely different genres 0_o
So it depends on what you like/want... Personally, I got sick of Oblivion because it was too repetitive. I hate games where you just go around fighting and levelling up. If you are more of a strategist, get Heroes IV. From the unfortunately small amount of time I got to play, I was having awesome fun, it lived up to the previous games, and beyond.
What's funny is that you've never even played Oblvion, but you've played HoMM5 and said you loved it, and you are debating which you want? The choice is obvious.

Of course the thread's going to be saturated with Oblivion fanboys, because they are all addicted :p It's one of those games that you get addicted to. Just like an MMO. This is automatic with any game that you level up in, and is relatively good or dynamic in some way.

So my vote goes to HoMM5. Go against the mainstream Oblivion.

I've played Heroes 4, and honestly have no idea why they deviated from Heroes 3 gameplay, with the walking around enemies (Turned that off rather sharpish), and being able to split up your party into monsters. The battle view was totally screwed up, but I did like the Heroes fighting thing (Could have been pulled off far better though).

I played the Heroes 5 demo with my sister (an avid Confluxian), and we both agreed that what we saw wasn't all too brilliant. The town's rotation-view meant that some buildings in the inferno were built in awkward places, and after we built the imp spawn, we couldn't find it. Also the whole interface for getting to where you want was horribly clunky and uninformed. They should have stuck with a static town-view. Makes it look bigger, and could allow for far better graphics than we saw.
Battles were moderately ok, but the views randomly zoomed in, and our eyes started hurting after the nth time the view suddenly went up-close for a split second while the attack animation played, then jumped back without warning. Very horrible.

So yeah. Oblivion I just found pleasant all round.

Well that argument doesn't really mean anything at all because apparantly the threadstarter loved the game. So your only job is to make Oblivion sound more appealing, here.

Yeah, HoMM5 also has a major advantage when it comes to how long the game lasts: Multiplayer.

And as for the singleplayer, there are story-type campaigns, and also you can just skirmish a map. And if I'm not mistaken, you can make your own maps too. Much more replay value here.

I've never played HoMaM, but if you've played and loved Morrowind you might be dissapointed with alot of things, it completly takes most of the RPG elements away from Morrowind. Just telling you that, I'd say Oblivion, but only cause I never played HoMaM....

I care not! I was merely stating my opinion on the game, in terms of the previous classic Homm3. whether or not someone takes those opinions as good or bad is up to them, it is afterall their PoV.

But, as the poster clearly was asking for opinions, I felt it my duty to supply him with some. Maybe my points made him think that "hmm, yeah there do seem to be some glaring bad points about this game", which is essentially what he was asking for when he posted advice on which game to get.

:p. Still say Oblivion, btw.

Both. Have oblivion and getting Heroes of Might and Magic 5

Yeah that annoys the heck out of me too. Archer fires arrow - Camera zoom - Creature dies - Zoom Out

That's only cool a few times and then it starts to hurt your eyes.

I couldn't stand the interface or overall look of HoM&M5. A shame because it looked like the kind of game I would enjoy. Never played any of the other HoM&M games though.

I voted HOMM5, but only because your computer could barely play Oblivion.

just wait for dark messiah heroes of might and magic!

Oblivion is overrated (It lacks true freedom IMO). I own oblivion and have played the demo of HoMM V and from that experience I must say that HoMM V was the better experience. You should get Oblivion eventually tough, despite being overated its not a bad game.

HEATHEN! :p

I couldn't stand playing HoMM V... it was great up until combat, turn-based ftl.
Looking forward to Dark Messiah though. :D

Oblivion? ... Such a no-brainer

Well sure, if all you did was the Arena and then beating the crap out of citizens using cheats then it certainly was a no-brainer.

I'm just taking a guess, though, how far did you actually get in the game? Level etc.?

ROFL!!! Dude, he was calling the CHOICE between the two games a no-brainer. He is SUPPORTING Oblivion.

Ahh man you Oblivion lovers are so funny because you get so anal at the hint of someone dissing your game  to the point where you falsely accuse your own fellow fans

thanks for all replies and tips.

I have made my choice! I was 50/50 between the games and my brain was having a war inside my head! So i finally went and looked for some un-official videos of Oblivion and Homm5 (people that bought the games recording when they are just playing the normal gameplay) and i found that Oblivion seemed kinda booring after a while...just walking for hours with no one in sight, huge castles with no one to be seen...like you are the only one there. But im not to judge the game without playing it, im just telling you what i saw. However, in Homm5 videos i saw enteraining gameplay and lots of elements that keept me watching without saying "when is this movie over????" like i did with Oblivion Gameplay movies.

Thanks for all your thoughts, my money goes to Homm5 tomorrow, another large pizza for the creators to buy!

Ahaha, I saw this thread about stupid mistakes you've done in these forums yesterday. I think this qualifies :P

Yeah. I was supporting it...

"Oblivion?..." was kind of a sarcastic thing, you know. And it's hard to catch sarcasm on the net.
