The Elder Scrolls IV
OBLIVION
Version 1.1.425 BETA
*****************************************

READ THIS FIRST!
****************************************

Bethesda Softworks is happy to announce the release of our Beta Patch. Please understand that this is not the final version of the patch, this is a Beta Patch. If you are not experiencing any problems while running Oblivion, it is not recommended that you install this Beta Patch. If you do choose to install it, we strongly recommend you backup your save games and understand it may be necessary to re-install the game when the final patch is released. When installing the Beta Patch, please allow the installation to complete naturally. This installation may take up to twenty minutes in some cases.

Additionally, you may experience issues with this patch. Please report any issues you experience with this patch at www.elderscrolls.com/forums under Hardware and Software Issues -- specify you are running with the BETA patch. We are working diligently to incorporate as many updates as possible into the final version of the patch. The purpose of this patch is simply to get potential fixes to the Oblivion fan base as soon as possible. The Beta patch includes fixes for a number of issues posted on our forums as well as issues noticed through our own internal game-play. An official patch will be released when we have received enough feedback on the beta patch, incorporated any other fixes, and are satisfied that it meets our quality standards.

You guys like me who use OLDblivion - don't install this patch yet. I seem to remember reading that OLDblivion isn't compatible with patches. It will have to be updated I assume.

I'm curious about the new "ultra low graphics setting option" now available in the patch. Anyone want to fill me in on what it does?

Isn't the Clavicus Vile quest supposed to have crash? I don't see it mentioned in the changelog.

Works good for me. No more crash on exit and a few other things.

Ultra low is really ultra low looking but provides good performance, however I've gotten some texture glitches with it on. It seems to apply a wierd LoD on everything and it disables any sort of graphical effect, most apparantly normal mapping. It is like playing HL2 in dx7 mode.

This just seems like a lot of minor bug fixes, why fiddle about with beta and final? I thought maybe they'd go as far as addressing some of the balancing issues.

Glad they fixed the Cure for Vampirism bug where you couldn't deliever the bloodgrass. Being a vampire is fun and all but it's time to move on.

OLDblivion users, I created a thread on the OLDblivion forums concerning this, and asp - the coder for OLDblivion replies that he will make OLDblivion work with a final patch, not a beta - which doesn't really matter to me, I'm just glad to be able to play the game. :D

Wait!!!! So one my Geforce 5600FX, I could get this patch and acually be able to play!?!?!?!?!?!?! OMG!!! (Oldoblivion doesn't work, I can see everything in wireframe and there are no eyes in the characters, and it's just f'ed.)

Fina-fuggin'-lee. I guess they were just silent because they were working hard.

The more people that post bugs on the oblivion forums, the sooner they will fix things. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. If you find a bug, make some noise and say something so they fix it.

I have seen quite a few bugs, but they are hard to really describe, or don't really bother me that much. Just general weirdness and I can't be bothered to post a bug report myself. You guys do it. :cat:

What really gets me is how they could release the game where it crashes when you quit. To me that just shows a rush job or incompetance. If they can't get the game to close properly, just imagine all the other bugs there are. LOL

Such a sweet game though despite any flaws and bugs. :D

Especially wierd as in the making of video, the QA Lead talks about what bugs he hunts. One being "are you able to quit from every location." now that implies that it never happened on their systems. The extent it happens is amazing, I'm pretty sure every PC owner has encountered it.

The hilareous thing was that it was delayed because they were 'attempting to make it as bug-free as we could'.

^ but games like Oblivion have a million times more places where their could be bugs than some other types of games, and those games are even going to have a shit-load of bugs themselves.

So we are talking a shit-load times a million here. I think they did really good to get this game done this year, and I'm really glad to be able to play it. I might not live to see next year at the rate I'm going.

Wow, I'm still going to wait until I get a better computer to play this, the ultra low-quality makes it so EVERYTHING is bright, when you turn on shadows, there are none, in the start of the game in the cave, the torch's light can't even be seen, it is sooo bright...

I'm pretty sure it warns that it will fux0r your saves, but only if you try and use them with the finished beta. Not sure about straight off.

My saves are working 100% and I didn't see any warning for save borking. Sometimes I have found that when saving something can go wrong and screw up that save. All the others work ofcourse (having not been touched).

Happened to me once near the end of the main quest. Borked autosave put me back 10-20 minutes.

No no no no, i think... it warns somewhere that the beta patch save files may not work with the finished save files. Not that i've actually read the notes; i just browse elderscrolls.com forums.

Ah that makes more sense. /hmm this could be bad. Atleast I have a fair few pre patch saves.
