It was a encrypted page thingie, if you solved it you got a "Congratulations Halflife2.net, you've solved the first test" with an image of G-man.

Yeah, when that came about, I pointed out that it wasn't actually the picture blinking, but after 10 minutes of staring at your monitor, it was probably yourself blinking
