1)Halo has no single play or at least none that will be good, it is basically a multiplayer game designed to get you to use the XBOX live feature.

2)Valve can do whatever it wants and I doubt they will say anything substantial about multiplay or coop especially since Doom 3 is basically designed as a single player experience for the PC. and that is there chief competition..

Rick said we'll have to wait and see. Don't get your hopes up because that doesn't necessarily mean there will be any multiplayer info there.

Also, if you want to discuss what could be the multiplayer I suggest you try the "CS2 to be MP" thread in the R & S forum
