I imagine this'll get locked real quick and I'm really only posting this because I'm bored and I feel that the recent Rumours haven't been nearly outrageous enough. So here I go, verging on the realms of libel.
What if the hacker was not some stand-alone bastard but actually affiliated in some way with a rival of Valve's. In order to make their game stand out more, or for it to come out first or to try and destroy some of Valve's credibility/community trust, or possibly EVEN to steal a little bit of code from Source so they can implememnt it for free... they resort to a little corporate espionage and sabotage HL2 a little to boost their own project. Hmmm.
A load of boll*cks of course, and I implicate no companies/parties in these unfounded and entirely fictitious speculations. But an interesting proposition nonetheless.
I. Am. Bored.
