A curious choice of words I thought. Owed for Gordon's survival of what? The only thing that I can think that would be owed for is the Vortigaunts' intervention. But then there's the curious word "survival." It obviously implies death. Does that mean that the g-man was actually going to kill Gordon? When the g-man opened Gordon's contract did someone pay for him to be killed rather than hired for a mission? Could it have been the Combine? :O

i dont think so, Breen did talk about Gordons contract but died not long time after.

fine pawn for thoose who control you.
how about it Dr.Freeman,
did you know that your contract was open for the highest bidder?

for me this means he would like to hire Gordon, and to kill him and either way he didnt get to it.

doubt that G-man would make a deal with an advisor.

dunno, just what i think :cheese:

but if he did he is breaking the contract, witch i dont think he will, also because why would anyone make business with him after

Breaking what contract? And there are other people in the multiverse than the Xenians, the humans and the Combine and I'm sure some of them won't give a shit about the g-man dealing with the Combine.

point is, if he made a deal, by contract or not, he will still break it if he dosent lget Gordon killed

'Continued survival' - just think, if the Gman hadn't intervened, Gordon would have been vaporised at the top of the Citadel. He also would have been left stranded on Xen. I think this is what Gman is referring to.

Good point. I'd not thought of that for some reason. I'd say Laivasse is right here.

yes.. to get something out of Gordon beein on free foot still, since G-man dont have control over him anymore, what i think

It does kind of seem like Gman is holding a metaphorical gun to Gordon's head though. Like not only does he steal you out of existence for 10 years and treat you like a dog on a leash, he reminds you that the only reason you're still alive is because of him.

Guess he hasn't heard of the F6 KEY...! HAH

But the implication is you could be toast at some point if you step out of line. I guess that whole speech contained a sort of reprimand for daring to be rescued by the Vorts.

Backing up Laivasse's point.

I reckon the G-man has been preventing Gordon from getting killed, and since there have been so many opportunities of near certain death (Citadel top, for example), that he wants some sort of repayment for his actions, even though you don't see them most of the time.

"Doctor Freeman. "

"I realize this moment may not be the most convenient for a heart-to-heart,"

"but I had to wait until your friends were otherwise occupied. "

"There was a time they cared nothing for Miss Vance..."

"When their only experience of humanity was a crowbar coming at them down a steel corridor. "

"When I plucked her from Black Mesa, I acted in the face of objections that she was a mere child and of no practical use to anyone. "

"I have learned to ignore such naysayers when quelling them was out of the question. "

"Still, I am not one to squander my investments..."

"and I remain confident she was worth far more than the initial..."

"appraisal. " "That's why I must now " "extract " "from you "

"some small repayment owed for your own survival. "

"See her safely to White Forest, Doctor Freeman. "

"I wish I could do more than keep an eye on you,"

"but I have agreed to abide by certain... " "restrictions. "

I think G-man was going to do same thing to Gordon as he did to Adrian. But maybe somebody/somehing realized Gordon's good crowbar skills and wanted to hire him from G-man's hand.

But even Marc Laidlaw doesn't know if Opposing Force is cannon/not cannon/some of it is canon.

I always assumed he referred back to the Black Mesa incident. I assumed there was something I was supposed to be thankful for. It could be referring to how he "saved" us after we destroyed the Nihilanth as opposed to killing us off. But then I suppose he could have implied he should have finished you off after being stolen -- essentially breaking the contract.

You work for him, and it's been made obvious the only other choice is death, so it might be connected.

Yeah I also assumed he was referring to Black Mesa, it's obvious from the get-go of Half-Life 2 that he has Gordon by the invisible balls. I always find it interesting the way he refers to guidelines, as if there's some "How To **** With Game Protagonists" rulebook.
