Particle Problems

Okay so i have a problem, I installed hl2 & dm etc. and for a while i have been playing source forts but recently when I played the particles have been messed up i see black squares with the particles in them and it was fine before. i changed my video settings in it but i have changed them back as well as reinstalled source forts im thinking of reinstalling hl2 but thats really a last resort since i would need to dl it through steam again (eww)
btw my graphics card is a Nvidia Geforce 4 mx440 64mb (i know its old leave me alone )

Yup, reinstall HL2 and all that, probably corrupted files. Although, black and white? Usually they are purple and black for when there are missing materials...

yes i was getting the black and purple also but what i ment was with the particles it was kinda like if there was a problem with alpha transperency and the parts that were sposed to be transperent werent
