Please help me in Half life II

Hi
i am having dell insipiron 6000 with 100GB harddisk and 1GB RAM. but when i am playing i m getting the following "Application error".
"The instruction at "0x241f8977" referenced memory at "0x00cff5c0". The memory could not "read".
click OK to close the Program."

this error I used to get frequently but when i restarted the game it used run properly. But when i came to "Water Hazard" portion of the game, it showed the error and got stuck. the game is not moving on.. if I start, it is showing that error and it gets stuck.
Please help me guys to solve this problem. and if you have saved game files in "Water Hazard" .. please send(post) to me so that i can start from that point again...

Welcome to the forums - bummer about the game. I don't have the best answers, but did Steam update itself before you played? You can also verify your files which might help. Find Half Life 2 in Steam and right-click on it. Select 'Properties', go to the 'Local Files' tab and click 'Verify integrity of game cache'. Hope that works.

Maybe you should reinstall it, sounds like a variable wasn't put on there probably. I assume that you have the right specs.

i had the idea of reinstalling but i dont want to do that ( probably in the worst conditions).. becuase i have played and dont want to loose the played game. if you guys can send few saved files of chapter "Water Hazzard" .. it would be grateful of you....

Well, you could do this:
Open the console and type:
sv_unlockedchapters 12

Now you can select any chapter you want from the game options.
