Hi everyone, i'm new, just signed in! i just bought half life yesturday, and after getting all the fuss with stream sorted i was ready to play... then it all went wrong! i only have 128mb ram, and after my windows system starts up it leaves me with 127.48mb ram. wen i run half life 2, during the loading screen it cuts off and i get a message from *engine error* saying i dont have the 128mb ram minimum! is there any way i can modify my computer or the game settings to enable me to play it, even if it is really bad quality until i get more ram?

Half-Life 2
Minimum Requirements

1.2 GHz Processor
256MB RAM
DirectX 7 level graphics card
Windows 2000/XP/ME/98

note the "256MB RAM". you'll just have to get more.

eugh! im getting a new computer in january, i cant wait that long to play hl2! but it should be worth it... 1024 ram!!! :D

just wait untill your new computer. Even if you got hl2 to load it would be unplayable. Whats your graphics card, by the way?

Yah it would probably be better to just wait,
it will be more enjoyable at a higher framerate..

Nvidia TnT2 64! my computer is soo old:( its soo unfair!

Yeah even if you tricked the game into running, it would be awful. It would run at like 3 FPS, and the graphics quality would look 1999 at best.

does anyone know any way of tricking the computer into running it? i just want to see how it works, i need the feel of hl2, ive waited too long already!!

It would be very hard, you'd have to basically hack HL2 engine to disable the checks... and it would still very probably crash. In other words, forget it.

Again, even if you did, you wouldn't get the "feel of HL2". You'd get a game that looks awful, where you can't hear the sound quickly, need to wait for the screen to respond to your movements. And you would never kill a single enemy with that system.
