Ok so now we are over year later and still no HL2. But we have learned alot. Somewhere in the midst of completing HL2 a year late they have ported HL1 to Source and CS to Source. They also made another retail release based on the CS world (Condition Zero)... is this cool or do you think they should have completed HL2 instead of making more products to sell and delaying HL2 for who knows how long?

Not everyone in valve is Working on HL2, there's the CS team, which worked on CS:S, which is HL2's multiplayer, so they were working on HL2 anyway.

yeah, I don't mind the other projects just as long as it doesn't slow down HL2's development. Which it most likely isn't because those working on those seperate things wouldn't necessarily be doing HL2 if they weren't on the new projects.

Agreed... in a normal gaming company.. but one that had the most anticipated game of the year delayed indefinately and portions of the source code stolen... doesn't it seem proper to pool your resources and get it out ASAP? I mean I will buy the biggest package they sell and will probably love the game but you have to admit this delay will hurt sales and its legacy. They are games out which contain HL2 "like"physics and stuff. The revolutionary stuff is not so anymore.. the story will have to carry this title it seems :(

Different teams have been working on all the other non-HL2 games. The Source conversions are being developed by the original mod developers(not sure aboutHL:S though), and CS:CZ, I believe, was made by Turtle Rock Studios. So Valve haven't really been delayed in HL2 development as far as I can see.

Well I actually feel bad for the vALVE boys.. they had an amazing product and I fear with the delays and VUG drama they may suffer monetarily.. I mean the bastards are rich already.. but this is years of their lives in this game. They should be compensated. Lord knows there enough shitty games out there we need to reward the good ones :D

They did the right thing.. I have no opinion and I am a fanboy!

valve rocks. the end

ps. They have put so much in to this game, i think the only way to say thanks is to play it..repeatedly..then find all of the secrets...

5. they're developing a CS:S mod, replacing terrorist with Resistance and CT with Combine Forces :upstare:

I'm gonna go with what Jean chreichen said.... The Valve people need to ****us. although valve might have been canadian... who knows

They did the right thing, it was inevitable that a CS port was released at some point, being the most played FPS ever.

There were different teams for each project-
cz wasn't developed in house
cs:s as stated was developed by cliffe and a small team of others (at a time when there probably wasn't a great deal left to do on HL2)
hl:s was developed after the majority of hl2 was developed, no teams were taken off hl2 as only a few people would have been needed to complete the sections of hl2 that needed work.

I imagine as teams finished up their sections of hl2 they were moved onto other projects, and yes hl2 was more than likely ready long before the RC was sent to vivendi, and since cs:s was pitched to be shipped with hl2- you have to wait for it to be ready (even if mp had been hl2dm, it still would have taken extra time to develop..).
Plus I'm imagining valve fully expected VU to delay like mad, so wanted cs:s ready to go so they can do what they're planning now (buy hl2 over steam and get cs:s this week)- to optimize steam sales.

Personally if it means a developer getting one over on their publisher, then I feel any delays are fully worthwhile:)
publishers= scum (so as far as I'm concerned waiting is a small price to pay if we get to see VUG on its knees)

The thing with CS:S is that Valve has a CS group who's job it is to maintain CS. They, along with the artists from the HL2 group who had finished their work a long while ago, upgraded and overhauled the content.

The last stretch of the HL2 development would all have been code work, rather than art, which leaves the artists free to tackle other side projects.

I'm with Fisker. Biased polls suck. When the poll choice you'd choose insults you.. well, f that.

VAVLe should have done whatever the hell they felt like. But I'm certainly not a "fanboy with no opinion",. I just have enough respect to not tell VALVe how to do their job.

I'm not going to reply to Fisker_Q's message because it sucks.

Don't post for the sake of posting. We call that spam.

I posted my opinion, and i didn't post it for the sake of posting. If i did that i would've had more than 700 posts.

edited. I was stooping to your level.

All I can say is

Oh and 782 is more than 700

lol, ignorance is bliss eh? If i posted for the sake of posting then i wouldn't be contributing, but i am. I am responding to your messages.

Which is filled with even more trolling than what me and f|uke apparently made.

Edit: But hey, after some time we'll both be stopped. I'll better stop while i still have time though.

Oh you again... won't even bother responding to your directly
:x

So back on topic.

This poll is not meant to be biased. But not entirely serious either. If you read between the lines the question is...

Do you think vALVE made the right choice. They obviously could have focused their resources to one area and have continued to work on other projects. 113 people got the point and voted.

and it is nearly split even. Half think vALVE did the right thing and the other half think they should have focused on HL2. If this were a biased poll would it be so even? :upstare:

Furthermore I wish I had HL2 but I am very excited about playing HL1:Source. I am happy they continued work on other projects I am just not sure it was the wisest choice as the delay has dated some of the features within HL2.

Well since you want to reason then i can as well.

You're not biased in that way.

You're little additions make it biased and insensitive.

Again it was not meant to be so serious... and over 100 people were tough enough to get past the "words" and share their opinion.

This is like Bush/Gore all over... dead even :)

I'd just like to know what vALVE is..

It was insulting to those who hold an opinion that you clearly do not understand. Thats no way to conduct a poll, theres no telling how many your phrasing turned off (especially considering that its clearly a popular answer), so this poll is meaningless and you're a jerk. :)
