PopCap Games Now on Steam

Thanks to PopCap Games, "the leading developer and publisher of casual games," we now have many more titles to purchase and download through Steam today.

PopCap's titles such as Bejeweled and Zuma are benchmarks of the casual games industry; generating over 175 million downloads and three billion player minutes per month…[br]Initially, 17 of PopCap's products will be made available via Steam on August 30, 2006. Keeping with PopCap tradition, each PopCap game offered via Steam will be available for a free trial period as well as for purchase. And PopCap collection packages will also be offered.

Head on over to the Steam Store to purchase any or all of the new games.[br]Update: Demos no longer show in your games list until they are installed. To access a demo, you must go through the Steam Store to download the game.

$20.00 each? I can get Darwinia, Shadowgrounds, X3 and other games for the same price as "Dynomite." I think a little bit more effort went into making Red Orchestra, etc.

Yeah, the pricing is truly looney. These are all fairly simple puzzle games: stuff like this comes bundled with windows media center for goodness sakes. 20 is just plain silly. Buy 17 puzzle games, be out 340$ That make sense to anyone?

Yeah, you could go to the store and pick up last years version on a $5 rack.
I don't mind the long list. Mine was already below the window so I'd have to scroll to see the games I have not downloaded. If it does bother you then just make shortcuts of the games on your desktop or quickstart bar and have Steam show servers or friends when it starts instead of the game menu.

Not installed list is minimised so it doesn't worry me at all. But the fact that the games retail for $20 is pretty insane if you ask me. Plenty of other games for that price on steam that I consider more worthy.

well obviously, but doesn't valve have the ultimate say as to what kind of content even gets put on steam? somehow, I'm getting the impression that these games are beneath them.

If that's the same Armed Assault that's pretty much a remake of Operation Flashpoint, then oh, that would be good. Operation Flashpoint was brilliant!

C'mon - "Feeding Frenzy 2 Deluxe" gives you hours upon hours of quality gaming action .
I've installed a couple of the demo's and quite frankly its a joke. The games are so basic you could find any number of clones on the web for free e.g. http://www.addictinggames.com/
I know steam is supposed to be another avenue for developers (or in this case ""developers"") to sell games through. However I suspect valve wouldn't want to make a habit of putting crummy little games like these on steam - otherwise people might start taking steam a little less seriously in terms of publishing real games through it.

Valve probably should make it a little more organized. As it stands now, it isn't too bad. All the games that are actually installed still appear at the top of the list. Anything listed below that is meaningless.

Unfortunately Valve has to take what they can get in the way of developers. Its not exactly like people are trampling each other to get on steam.

And the free flash versions of these games you see everywhere (including the popcap site itself) are just demos to get people to buy the deluxe versions, wich as it turns it out are priced at $20 everywhere not just steam.

Game demo's are no longer visible on the Steam Games list - You have to download them from the store.

No offence but STFU! FFS stop moaning about Episode Two. I can tell you have little experiance with Valve. They perfect their games to the last inch. If you'd rather have it released earlier then fine, but it'll be buggy and incomplete. They may release Portal t-shirts later, but dude, its just a friggin' t-shirt! And just because you don't like summat doens't make it crap, and it hardly "messed up" your games list. Thanks for your time.

I'm sure Valve/Popcap games ultimately came to an agreement on the pricing (duh), and whether its a good price or it isn't (and, it isn't), it is there, and you have the choice to buy it or not. But if you know where to get them free, then you don't have to buy them, do you? But I don't see everyone banging on Valves door for Steam, so if there is the chance to add to the Steam package, then they are going to go for it, no matter how lackluster it may be. I wouldn't buy Popcap games. But to say Valve are becoming sellouts when it comes to Steam is stupid.
