Did anyone watch the Orange Box episode of X-Play? When they were talking about portal they showed some interview footage of Gabe. He said the main character of portal has a lot of significance in the half-life universe and that she will eventually interact with the main characters of the half-life series that we already know. This is news to me. Any speculation on how she will fit in?

I figured that is what would happen with her since we were able to see her. I mean for Gordon, we never got to see him besides for a picture of him at Black Mesa and others, but we continue to play as him since we don't see him. I assumed since we saw her, we would encounter her in HL instead of continue to play as her.

As for the part she will play, I really have no idea other than maybe showing Gordon Aperture Science and GLaDOS, maybe.

also gabe made a comment saying that portals will be as essential to games in the future as physics and 3d graphics are now. i think this a bit of an overstatement but probably hints that we are definitely going to see portals (the kind that the portal gun makes) in future hl games or at least in future valve games

I'm really just waiting for them to bring Adrian Shephard back. Portal would have been the perfect opportunity for that, but I guess they've got other things in mind.

Alternatively, Adrian Shepard would of course be an excellent character for a '7 hour war' prequal, or the 'missing week' from HL2 - he could revise his OpFor role by starting out as a Metrocop and eventually joining the rebel's side.

I dont think anything is a over statement with Valve. They made physics work and now they are pretty much apart of every game. None of which come close to what Valve is still doing. Portals are going to be huge in Valve games im telling you. With the success of portal i cant begin to think what Valve is up to next.

I am not saying valve won't make them work and we won't see them. However, portals are a pretty specific game element. There are 3 dimensions and the laws of physics apply in a real environment. Therefore they must be used in a game that is shooting for a realistic setting. There aren't portals in reality (that we know of). So I don't think they are going to be essential in games made by developers other than valve. I personally wouldn't want every game I play to include portals. They work in the hl universe but not so much in other settings.

The portal girl kind of looks like that one girl civilian near the beginning of HL2.

If they include a portal gun in the next installment, that means we finally get to see Gordon Freeman himself!

Portals are very useful from a development perspective, allowing you more flexibility in how you build the environments. He may have meant it from that perspective, rather than gameplay.

Chell is the G-Man!

Okay I'll stop.

Portals have kinda already been done in other games... PREY being the clearest example. What makes the Half-life universe great is how free-form the technology is. For example physics playing a part in-game was not invented by valve, it was only refined and given new depth with the Grav Gun. Same with the Portal gun. What will make me happy is to see what is on the horizon. Gravity-portal-snark gun anyone?

The G-Man is the G-Man! end of discussion, but yeah I think that the main char in Portal might end up somewhere on the
Borealis :afro:

Yeah, probably. Episode 3 might be mirrored with Portal 2. In a sense that Gordon and Portalgrl meet up and the end of their respective episodes.

Bah it won't load the videos with the latest flash player...MEH!

This makes a lot of sense. I could see Chell actually trying to escape using the Borealis, then once she boards it finds out that GLaDOS is still connected to it in some way and falling into a whole new stretch of mystery and mischief... the future of this series is really starting to make sense.

Let's just hope we're right :D

Also, I can't find the interview video on the Pile >_<

The people who make portal where doing portals WAY before prey. They made a portal game for their college project.

There was no way that Adrian would fit in Portal... There's a backing story to it all, you know, and Valve probably had it written before Adrian existed. Just look at the story of portal. Tell me where the hell he would fit.
