Now, I cant say this is 100% definitely going to be the suprise announced next week, but check out this link. It says:

Will it be possible to port content from Half-Life 1 to Half-Life 2?

We’ve made this as painless as we could.
We learned a lot through our experiences with TFC, Counter-Strike, Day of Defeat, and so on. This engine is much more mod’able than Half-Life 1 was, and the tool set has been improved a lot.

I mean if they ported it to source, it makes sence they'll announce it at some point, then release it. Hopefully that time is now. :D

Whoa! Nobody told me we were going to be able to port stuff from HL1 into HL2!

I'm so excited I'm gonna have to go back to playing HL:source and imagine what the implications of what you just said would be like!

Also, in the Keyboard section of the Options menu in HL:S, there are keys for voice communication, text chat, and multiplayer scoreboard. And the command for changing player models (changemodel) is in the game, but when I tried to changemodel to the gordon model, it crashed with an error. Still, why would they totally revamp the menus and interface while leaving those keys in? Unless they were planning on using them, that is.

I'm just going to head over to Natural-selection.org and see whats up with their porting from the hl1 engine :P

i think what hes trying to point out seeing as he highlighted TFC!, that tfc was re-made with the source engine.

I honestly think they skipped the TFC conversion and went right ahead on to TF2.

At least that's what I hope they did!

Exactly :)

But Valve doesn't make DoD or CS. I read it as saying they realise how important modding is to the success of HL2 through the experience of seeing games like CS DoD and TFC blossom.

Not to mention the article is dated Sat Aug 23, 2003 (which I just did mention, oops)

Well, ok they own the DoD team now; but I think Doug Lombardi just cuts them a check.

im pretty sure the "surprise" thats coming out next week which they mentioned in the recent news at steampowered.com is just gonna be the release of DoD:Source because why would they just crap out a game thats not even in the "Coming Soon" sub section? I probly wouldn't even know it was added to my games list until I read the forums post says OMG DIS IZ 2 KEWL!! its gotta be dod. I hope they did more to it than they did for hl:s

I'm a DoD player, DoD:S has been completed a few months ago but will be put to a closed beta first. Or so says the DEV team.

If Valve is going to release a source game on us for a surprise it will be ricochet. mmmm ricochet:source....

lol and for ricochet they could actually have new models and textures, since there's not a whole lot to change in that category :D

That quote is referring to the mods that Valve has worked with and/or made. TFC, CS, and DoD are all mods Valve has "purchased" or works closely with the teams who created them. NOTHING in this quote hints that it is TFC.

And I hope you die.

Actually I agree they probably skipped over TFC. Damn shame if you ask me. TF2 is going to be a boring CS-Battlefield hybrid. Yuck.

I'm not going to make any speculation until word is out. I've speculated enough on HL2 as it is.
