Possible use for the Citadels 'digger'

Looking at the Citadel, isnt it possible that the digging machine also doubles up as a giant thumper? It would explian why the Antlions only enter the city in Aftermath

it does look like it's thumping.

Turrets. Energy barriers. Combine protection. And they can't fly, they jump. Antlions are weak, they would get mowed down.

perhaps it doubles as a "thumper"...digging might be its primary action but the "mega-thumper" is a bonus effect from the force of its digging..

the antlions would only have to dig their way into the sewers somewhere outside of City17 to be able to get in without any thumpers being active..

wow..think about that for a minute..antlions,antlion guards,etc..have been tunneling into the city over time and break through around the time the barriers come down..caught in a vice...with your good buddies the Combine...and the zombies..and the.... :O

Think about it - they have these semi tall thumpers that keep antlions off the Nova Prospekt beaches. Thats two thumpers keeping a massive prison facility safe from antlions. And that prison is sitting right next to the antlions nests.

They are not going to spend time creating a massive thumper on the bottom of the citadel to keep antlions etc at bay when you have the outlying barriers. It is more than obvious the citadel is harvesting resources.

All thumpers do is is shake the Earth, which deafens the Antlions. I don't think the citadel deliberately anatgonises Antlions, but chances are, with all the ground shaking and stuff, Antlions don't like to go near it.
