I've flown the majority of HL2.net guys around one time or another, and being primarily a pilot, I'm curious what most co-pilots would rather have when they TV-missile moving targets.

My question is mainly for the heli-to-heli combat fights, do you rather have me aim your reticule box directly at the chopper or ahead of it (essentally leading the target for you)? Being a gunner myself as well, I always prefer to have it aimed in front so I have to do less adjustments mid-flight, but I'm curious as to what the majority of you guys like?

Oh and how many people fly with the actual visible cock-pit view? I never fly with it out but I know a few people do. Personally aside from realism aspect, all it does is hinder the view area so that's the reason why I never fly with it visible. Although I do admit, the Chinese cockpit does look pretty cool at times, the rare split seconds I see it after I switch from View-Back :D

edit: I guess my question applies to moving land / water vehicles as well, personally I almost always aim it at the vehicle itself since it only requires minor adjustments... again curious to see what most people prefer.

I can't stand it when you put it RIGHT over the guy. It's allot easier when you lead him just by one box (IE put the edge of the box right on his nose). That way you get enough leading space so you don't have to make any radical course changes to go either back or ahead.

But what I like best is when the pilot takes the time to get behind the enemy helo so you get a clear shot. Anything else is just a crapshoot if you ask me.

The missile's manouverability (rofl, funny word) is crap itself ;/

I'm usually a gunner, and i prefer pilots putting me quite far away from a target but in line with it (as best they can). Also pointing up slightly is essential, because the TV missile is obviously looking down. When machine gunning, rotating and drifting the chopper sideways is best. Going forwards and backwards make it really tough to hit AT guys.

lead the target, makes the most sense too, but sometimes its not that easy to lead your gunner..

Leading and from behind, that's usually a 100% hit for me, even though I am very unexperienced with the missiles.

I'd go for leading, but just point me in the darned cardinal direction. :D Thats all I ask, and I'm usually disappointed.

I have logged countless hours with the gunner position. I have faced many clanner helos and kicked their asses. I will tell you right now that if your going to lead do it a little tiny bit. Try to aim more so at the front of the target and let the gunner choose how he wants to shoot the missle.

When lining up try from behind if you can, but that can be difficult since the hitboxes can appear messed up. I have hit many helos dead on and missed then aimed low so it clearly misses them and it counts as a kill. I found the best way to take a helo out of from the side. Click along the front and keep it horizontal with their whole helo...along the line of their tail and they are a huge target and next to impossible to miss.

Well I'm not really looking for tips, I'm just curious what people prefer when TV'ing a moving target. Seems like the consensus seems to be lead ahead, which is what I've been doing all along and I'll keep doing it. The reason why I ask is I noticed the majority of the pilot's I've flown with are too lazy to compensate for the moving heli's and making it lots harder to pull off TV shots (mainly at close-med range), I was wondering why they always aim me at the enemy chopper and not in front.

D:

Anyway, Glirk Dient do you have XFire? I don't think I've played with you before and but a pilot can never have too many good gunners :)

... well ok, not a pure pilot myself since I enjoy being solo gunner at times as well :P

the helicopters will crash now with no pilot instead of conveniently spin upwards

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO... that's like...my bread and butter :'(

I didn't read that in the patch information though, are you sure about this?

pretty sure
the patch addressed the fact that a helicopter that the pilot bailed out of will spin upwards indefinitely meaning that it will not respawn for ages if at all - I'm quite sure that this will make it also apply to the attack choppers

My aim is Glirk

If were gonna fly a helo...your getting on vent. It simply pwns to be able to call stuff out on vent.

Well at it's current state the helicopter does do that, if you just swap seats the helicopter will spin rapidly out of control going up + right. It's just that you can either compensate for it or regain control fast enough to stop it's ascent.

Bah, I always have AIM off when I play since I'll constantly get alt-tabbed out. You should get XFire, it's much muuuuch easier to setup / join games other HL2.netters are in. :/

I have TeamSpeak, not Vent :( Although lately I've been just using in-game voice more, it doesn't affect my ping quite as much.

the difference is now it will go nose down, not up :)
try getting out of that situation

Glirk has Xfire. It's gotta be in one of the "Join HL2.netters in BF2 games" threads that are stickied cause he's on my list.

I endorse this statement.

Well as long as you stay higher up, it still seems feasible... but this might actually help solo machine gunning, since spinning down will make it easier to stay level with infantry.

Xombine: I think maybe you have Hectic Glenn's XFire? I sometimes mix the two up... but if you do plz share k thx bai. :p
