preloading and buying

since preloading HL2 takes less time to send out than sending copies to stores.. can we justifiably have a guess as to when HL2 will hit shelves? I'm a little confused with the whole "preloading HL2" thing. have they preloaded the entire game, or part, or what? if this has been answered before, please send me the link to the appropriate forum posting and close this post. Sorry for any inconvenience.

They are just pre-loading Models, textures, audio, and other things that are finished, and will not be changed before release.

There are all these people who are downloading CS: Source stuff. But I can't because I don't have CZ or ATI key, or whatever. I'm kinda confused on what's going on right now.
I don't know whether they are downloading CS: Source stuff or Half-Life 2 stuff. Is there any Half-Life 2 single-player stuff that can be downloaded???
