Most things which come in 3's movies and games the 3rd more often than not is a prequal... be4 the events of the 1st one took place. Take tomb raider for example... and there are many others and with all these suspitions over time travel and what the g-man is all about perhaps we will see gordon going back in time to be4 the events at black mesa takes place.

so you say 'most' and then the only example you give is tomb raider?
for the riggety record, tr3 was not a prequel

Off the top of my head, I can't remember any trilogies that featured a prequel as the third film.

In the Indiana Jones trilogy, the second film released (Temple of Doom) was actually a prequle, set two years before Raiders of the Lost Ark. And the third film began with a prequel adventure with a young Indy starting his adventures, even though the main part of Last Crusade was not a prequel to the previous films.

As for the third Half-Life game, I'd like to see how things develop rather than how everything began - back story can be good but it has to be exciting and give us a better grasp on the character as the young Indy bit arguably did. As for time travel, that is a whole other thread and worthy of further discussion. Perhaps it might be good to see the history of black mesa but also it would be great to see new worlds and new places. I've enjoyed visiting both black mesa and city17 and look forward to what valve can come up with next!

Yeah, it wouldn't really make sense to be a prequel. Nothing would be answered or concluded in the story.

Half-Life 1 is the best prequel we'll get. The point of the main thread of HL titles is that they're from Freeman's perspective, and we can be pretty sure that nothing that interesting happned to him before Black Mesa. (Actually, I did once have this bizarre idea for a HL SP episode called "Freeman's School Days" wherein his school science project goes wrong and he gets caught up in Black Mesa-esque teleport accident. I was going to model it all on my school but then I remembered that I'm useless with editing software ^^)

An Expansion / Spin Off could deal with it I suppose, but It doesn't really seem to me that much was supposed to have happened before BMRF. Though later Half-Life games could suggest otherwise...

Theres nothing at all interesting that happens before Black Mesa, it would be next to pointless.

You could have a game set between the originals- but that'll most likely be explored in expansion packs. But pre-Black Mesa? Unless Valve let you play as a different species or something, I don't think there'd be much point.

Black Mesa: Sauce? :o

Actually before HL2 was released they talked about HL2 Epsodes, as having prequels in it.

To Half Life 1 and 2,

Two Ideas:

1) Anouther facility
2) The Combine Invasion of Xen

The only trilogy I can think that did that was MGS3.

And I'd rather move things along with the HL series than seeing how it began.,

1) Anouther facility

What is this, Jurassic Park? Oh noes, Site B!

2) The Combine Invasion of Xen

Bloop. Incorrect. The Combine weren't on Xen. And if they were, it was after you took out Nihilanth and there was nothing there for them to fight.

You could have a Combine invasion of the place the Xenians were at before they were Xenians :p

But no, I don't really think a prequel to the first game would work without some sweeping storyline additions/elaborations.

What about a game where you play Gordon Freeman as a student at MIT studying quatum physics. The game would consist of of levels of you (Freeman) sitting in class listening to a teacher lecture you for hours and the bosses would be actual MIT tests about quatum physics! The exciting conclusion of the game would invovle you driving your car through the desert on your way to the original Black Mesa Transit System depot and waiting for the trolly to arrive. I can't wait.

All that would In a prequel to HL would be Valve losing it's crediblity, Although the 7 hour war, Slow Teleportation, Or something that happen within the 10 or so years Freeman Was gone would be awesome.
